This book is available in several versions. The 541 page version (inc index) is a triumph of clear explanations and drawings that really do "show you how to do it", no matter what the job is.
The range of projects covered from replacing a fuse to advice on unfair dismissal are invaluable advice for modern urban living.
The excellent tips on "What not to do" and warnings of potential hazards are the key to success in all the tasks outlined.
Every home should have a copy!.

useful stuff - but be careful what revision of the book you get. Mine was printed in 1994 and a lot of the information is very old and pointless - for example there's guides on how to clear a jammed cassette tape... How to clean lace gloves... the basics of needlepoint tapestry... how to replace the needle of a turntable record player and so forth....

Hundreds of useful things though and a great way to kill a few hours every now and then...

Allowing for this being written pre home computer era, the age of mobile phones, sms, email, ipads etc, it covers a lot of basics. For someone who isn't very handyman or woman, this book provides a lot of information on the little things we need to know. Especially if mum, dad or the internet aren't readily available. Worth having as an 'enquire within on everything' type reference.

I was forewarned but it WOULD have been helpful to have a note among the details of whether UK or USA edition

Haven't really used the book yet but it has so much to offer that I can't wait! I originally saw it in a Half price Bookstore so I was able to see what was in it ahead of time...
Not the book I was expecting 12 Jun. 2013

This book is okay in regards to things you can do. I was hoping for more modern day stuff with modern day finds. Some of the things they expect you to use is hard to come by in the 21st century...
