Amazon.co.uk Review

In the low tradition of knockoff horror flicks best seen (or not seen) on a drive-in movie screen, Steven Spielberg's sequel to Jurassic Park is a poorly conceived, ill-organised film that lacks story and logic. Screenwriter David Koepp strings along a number of loose ideas while Jeff Goldblum returns as Ian Malcolm, the quirky chaos theoretician who now reluctantly agrees to go to another island where cloned dinosaurs are roaming freely. Along with his girlfriend (Julianne Moore) and daughter, Malcolm has to deal with hunters, environmentalists, and corporate swine who stupidly bring back a big dino to Southern California, where it runs amok, of course. Spielberg doesn't seem to care that the pieces of this project don't add up to a real movie, so he hams it up with big, scary moments (with none of the artfulness of those in Jurassic Park) and smart-aleck visual gags (a yapping dog in a suburb mysteriously disappears when a hungry T-rex stomps by). A complete bust.--Tom Keogh

Synopsis

The Lost World: Jurassic Park is director Steven Spielberg's sequel to his original dinosaur thriller. Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) returns for more dino-horror when, four years after the disaster at the would-be amusement park, another expedition is mounted by millionaire John Hammond (Richard Attenborough). To document the natural behavior of the beasts at a mysterious Site B, Hammond sends a team comprising Malcolm; Malcolm's girlfriend, paleontologist Dr. Sarah Harding (Julianne Moore); and a wildlife videographer (Vince Vaughn). They face adversity in the form of a less-than-scrupulous big-game hunter (Pete Postlethwaite) and, of course, the terrible lizards themselves. The film is loosely based on Michael Crichton's novel The Lost World, which was named after the 1912 Sir Arthur Conan Doyle novel of the same name. Spielberg proved his determination to alternate making socially conscious films with directing movies of sheer entertainment value; his prior film to The Lost World was Schindler's List, and he followed the dinosaur adventure with Amistad.

TLW certainly blew me away the first time I saw it. It's storyline isn't amazing, but the supporting cast and visual treats make this film a classic in my opinion.
One thing you should never do is compare the film to the book, because they are just too different. The film is excellent in it's own right, and the book is good in it's own right.
Also, I'd just like to say that there is are a few funny bits here and there that make the film even better. A definate must-buy for any dino fan.

ENTERTAINING 10 Feb 2002

This is a brilliant film, me and my children have lost count of the times that it has been watched. I especially enjoyed the T-rex in this video. Another thing that I found good was that it played along brilliantly as a sequel to the first Jurrassic Park, usually some films do not seem to stick to the stories of the films involved but I found that this one did quite nicely.

In this second installment of Jurassic Park, Jeff Goldblum takes over from Sam Neill for one film as the lead actor.
From the bizarre opening sequence to the thrilling chase in San Diego, this film will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.
John Hammond (Richard Attenborough) reveals to Ian Malcolm (Goldblum) that there was another island on which the dinosaurs were bred. He also tells Malcolm that his girlfriend Sarah Harding, is already there.
So off sets Ian with two sidekicks to find here.
A little while after, he realises that another team are there to capture the dinosaurs alive and use them as tourist attractions.
My favourite parts were the trailer brawl with the T-Rexes and the trouble Dieter Stark finds himself in after he wanders off and attacks a compy.
If you enjoyed Jurassic Park 1, The Lost World's even better!
A big thumbs up from me to the Jurassic Park series!

Good but dumb female lead!
Really liked this sequel. Great special effects and what's not to like about a movie with, not one, but two T-Rex. Read more

Jurassic Park - 2
I love this trilogy - the effects are still great even though technology has moved on. One of the best sequels to an original idea

The weak link in an otherwise outstanding trilogy.
