London 1800. Jupiter is young, black, living at the African Academy in Clapham with other boys from wealthy Sierra Leonean families. But beyond the relative ease of Clapham lies another London, where poor black communities struggle for survival along the squalid reaches of the Thames. A world where Jupiter's education and background mean nothing and skin colour alone determines fate. Into this world his younger brother Robert vanishes, and Jupiter is obliged to follow ...

although it was compulsary for me to read this book for my history class in school i was looking forward to it. unfortunatley i was dissapointed and i found this book slow and boring. although S.I Martin captured all the abuse that the blacks in england in the 1800's recieved he does it in a way that makes Jupiter seem arrogant. overall it did not live up to its great reputation. apart from this it was an okay, quick weekend read.
