Product Description

Jupiter and Uranus meet every 14 years. When they do, revolution and innovation join forces with restless exploration and the quest for knowledge. The result is always exciting, educational and unpredictable. Or is it? Anne Whitaker, never one to take anything at its face value, decided late in 1996 that she would observe the effects of this approaching planetary event and investigate whether it lived up to its reputation according to the textbooks. Her method was straightforward: watch world events around the time of the conjunction, and during the rest of 1997; find some volunteers with the 5 Aquarius 55 Hot Spot highlighted by in their natal horoscope; collect their stories during the year of the conjunction; and determine whether the "Jupiter-Uranus effect" could be detected in their lives. As Ken Gillman writes in the foreword, "This is a study of real-life astrology." Nine of the original 17 volunteers stayed with the study throughout. Their disrupted, exciting, turbulent life stories form the core of this vivid exploration of the interface between planetary activity and human life, during a period in which the startling announcement of the birth of Dolly the Sheep in February 1997 indicated that advances in cloning and genetic engineering were taking us on a voyage never before undertaken by humanity. This highly original book, written in a pacy and accessible style, will be of particular interest to research- minded students. It will also appeal to astrologers looking for specific evidence that the personal and collective lives of humankind respond in the same core way to the great music of the spheres, played throughout space and time by the planets in their cycles.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating Research for the Astrologer's Bookshelf, 8 July 2009
This review is from: Jupiter Meets Uranus (Paperback)
I read "Jupiter Meets Uranus" in one sitting. Anne Whitaker's writing style is so engaging, her research so fascinating that a lot of the time the book reads more like a novel; a page turner of the astrology world.

I have to say that I've never been hugely interested in mundane astrology - much like I have never been one to watch the news or engage in any kind of political thought whatesoever. At school I loathed the history of the industrial revolution and the interminable time spent on 'Peat Bog Man'. What we learned seemed out of context and I felt no relation to it. Perhaps it is my Aquarian Moon and my overwhelming 9th house that pushes me relentlessly to look to the future.

So it was with these thoughts in mind when scanning the content of the book that I felt I would probably find the personal experiences of the the author's research subjects more interesting than the collective experience. I was wrong. Both were engaging in their own ways. Anne Whitaker achieved for me what my poor history teachers at school never managed: to show history in context of it's cycles and give me a sense of meaning and belonging to the great over-arching stories that manifest over sometimes centuries in our collective experience. Where before there had only been boring facts and figures, now there were archetypal stories being played out on a grand scale, synchronicites beyond explanation.

The book covers the history, myths and legends behind each planet giving the reader a wonderfully full picture of the energy of each. She then moves into generally exploring the cycles of the collective planets before turning to a more concentrated overview of the Jupiter-Uranus conjunctions. A meticulously researched section on the mundane happenings of when Jupiter and Uranus touched on the 'hotspot' in Aquarius that the author had identified kept me completely enthralled and also reminded me of long gone headlines that had managed to stick in my mind. For example - whatever did happen to the Raelians and their supposed cloned children? The connections that Anne found during her time of research were fascinating and sometimes staggering almost beyond belief yet there in black and white. It certainly stimulated the desire in me to look more closely at mundane astrology.

The often sparsely edited answers from Anne's research subjects found me strangely touched. Here they laid out their lives in their own words, from death and disaster to love and goals achieved. From heartache to heart's desire I felt moved by many of the insights and feelings expressed. One in particular who described much of his experiences through dreams captured my attention. I think I felt moved perhaps because it is not often we stop to think about our own lives and look through a long-view lens. Reading the unfolding stories of those who had responded to the author's questionnaires over a period of time made me think a lot about my own story, the over arc that bridges what can seem like a time of devastation to a time of completelness. It is easy to forget, lost in the details of daily life, that there is a bigger story happening.

After a close look at the effects of Jupiter conjunct Uranus during 1997, the author then moves on the explore this in connection with the greater cycle of Neptune as the mysterious planet activated the hotspot point between 1999 - 2002

Reading Jupiter Meets Uranus has left me with many tantilising questions. The author doesn't spoon-feed the reader. She presents the charts of her subjects and their words and leaves it up to us to look further into it. Woven into her writing are quotes ranging from Shaekespeare to Milton and some excellent recommendations for further reading. Certainly this book has given me a thirst for research and shown how much potential there is for further research into planetary configurations and cycles.

Anne Whitaker is a talented writer who stimulates the imagination of the reader whilst given them a wealth of information. You will be astonished by synchronicity and amazed at the astrological connections between for example connections Dolly the Sheep and Mary Shelley or the discovery of America and the Moon landing. I look forward to reading more from her in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Expand Your Knowledge with Jupiter-Uranus, 16 Jun 2009
By Jude Cowell "Jude" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Jupiter Meets Uranus (Paperback)
Perhaps it's having a minor aspect between Jupiter and Uranus in my own natal chart that has inspired in this novice astrologer a previous lack of focus on the pairing of two planets whose Great Conjunction of February 15/16, 1997 is covered in fascinating detail by Anne Whitaker's new book, Jupiter Meets Uranus. Until now.

From the success of lucky breaks, chances, and boundless optimism to breakthroughs in science, politics, economics, philosophy, religion, education, technology, exploration, travel and other fields of human endeavor, the enterprising Jupiter-Uranus combination of energies has a nature not always easy to assess, as Reinhold Ebertin adds in a footnote in his book, Combination of Stellar Influences.

Yet assess Anne Whitaker well does, in personal lives (as discussed in Amazon's Editorial Review) and, even more of interest for my Political Astrology work, in collective events and in mundane/national charts.

Several mundane charts from 1609 to 1997 are included and/or discussed here, with the 14-year cycle of Jupiter and Uranus noted as it relates to recurring themes, issues, and breakthroughs. Yes, there are themed similarities which are noted in Ms. Whitaker's research which show humankind's progress in thought, inspiration, ideals, and application.

A good example is the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction which timed the publication of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein in 1818 with Dolly the Sheep's debut on the world stage of cloning a few Jupiter-Uranus cycles later in February 1997; shown is Dolly's natal chart set for her birth on July 5, 1996.

That Shelley's prophetic book (full title: Frankenstein, or the The Modern Prometheus) has an amazing link to 1997's first cloned sheep is explored fully in Whitaker's able grasp. Even Scotland's natal chart of March 25, 1005 is given and discussed in relation to these and other events.

Interesting connections also shown through the blending (conjunction) of these planets are the astrological links between space exploration - the US' first Moon landing in 1969 - and the early discovery of America at Cape Canaveral, Florida in 1513. Cape Canaveral! Both events carry the hallmark of Jupiter-Uranus conjunctions and their synchronicities are masterfully explained along with other notable explorations.

Political events involving Bill Clinton (US president in 1997) and the US natal chart are approached through the Jupiter-Uranus lens.

My notes on President Clinton for that time period (from his book, My Life) indicate a definite Jupiter-Uranus flavor as he prodded Congress to fund his expanded education initiatives (he was, "looking to the future"); in foreign policy he worked toward the expansion of NATO and more; and on February 15 - the day of the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in eastern time - Clinton states that, "--we got another economic boost when American-led negotiations in Geneva produced an agreement to liberalize world trade in telecommunications services, opening 90% of the markets to US firms."

'Economic boost'? '90%'? 'Opening'? Jupiter.

'Liberalize'? 'Telecommunications'? Uranus.

(Mercury is in the mix, of course, by way of agreements, negotiations, communications, and trade. And the US/Geneva 'travel' link is described by all three planets.)

Now we may wish to debate whether the opening of these markets amounted to the gains envisioned in 1997, but that the enterprising Jupiter-Uranus spirit was infusing plans for Jupiterian expansion and Uranian progress cannot be denied!

Well, you may be as fascinated as I am by the real-life events that are connected through the centuries by the 14-year meetings of Jupiter and Uranus, especially when considered, as Anne Whitaker does, within the larger Neptune and Pluto cycles.

Jupiter Meets Uranus takes macro and micro views of this forward-looking planetary combo, and you'll do well to let author Anne Whitaker be your guide as you explore their greener pastures and marvel at the breakthroughs the Jupiter-Uranus duo has gifted upon mankind through the centuries.
