Book Description

30 July 2009
This book records the rise and rise of Junky Styling, the fashion label and at the same time shows readers how to recycle their own good quality second-hand clothing, deconstructing, re-cutting and completely transforming it into a new product that belies the former identity of the raw material. Junky Styling: Wardrobe Surgery is a beautifully designed and illustrated publication, designed to show fashion students, hobby-sewers, textiles fanatics and anyone with an interest in ecological and recycling issues how to reconstruct stylish, individual clothing from things they no longer wear, and how two women with a passion for fabrics and a flair for stylish design built a thriving and successful business doing just that. This book will inspire everyone who reads it to look at their discarded clothes with fresh eyes and a resourceful frame of mind.

Product Description

Review

' Junky Styling is a unique brand of sustainable fashion and the book aims to explore the concept of the brand and offer step-by-step projects encouraging readers to perform a little " wardrobe surgery" of their own ' -- Womenswear Buyer (July 2009)

About the Author

Anni Saunders and Kerry Seager are best friends, and co-directors of the successful fashion label Junky Styling, which was officially launched in 1997. They began buying old men's suits from secondhand shops and reconstructing them into experimental creations to wear out clubbing in London in the early 1990s - these attracted so much interest that they opened a stall in Kensington Market, and then a studio and retail shop in East London. High-profile Junky Styling clients include Kate Moss, Sadie Frost, Sienna Miller, Gwen Stefani and Russell Brand. Junky Styling featured in the most recent London, Paris and New York Fashion Weeks.

1.0 out of 5 stars another disappointment 25 Jan 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book promises much and delivers little. If you would like advice on setting up your own business there are better sources of advice. If you would like to know how to recycle your clothes it offers little help other than 'buy an overlocker'. The projects are unattractive to those of us without a burning desire to create garments out of worn-out men's suits. The top made from a pair of men's trousers would be more at home in the 'Hoerengracht' exhibition now on at the National Gallery in London. I suspect creating new garments from old requires sewing skills not to be aquired from reading this book.

If, like me, you're good at sewing and want to wear something a bit different - but lack the ideas - then this book is an inspiration.
