5.0 out of 5 stars Female Trouble 1 July 2002
Even within the extraordinarily diverse and often disturbing realm of Japanese Manga, the very distinctive and deliciously twisted graphics of Junko Mizuno are simply unique.
Juxtaposing the hyper-cute with the grotesque, in the dark, fantasy world of Mizuno, big-eyed, semi-naked Lolitas with ribbons and rattlesnakes in their hair, play with gient syringes and razor blades (don't try this at home kids!). And, beneath the baby pink, puffy-textured cover of this book, you'll find an engagingly lurid collection of comely-yet-vaguely sinister, jailbait-types who look, quite frankly, like a whole buncha female trouble.
The hell babies of the title, were all penned and coloured by Junko between 1998 and 1999, but as an unannounced bonus, the book also includes the fabulously-titled 'Vulgarity Babies' section, which features later creations from 2000. Less textured than the preceding work, they represent a further refinement of the artist's style and include some of the most charming images in the collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars very cute and a bit guro 14 Nov 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Nice artwork, the line art and backgrounds have a lovely soft look to them, reminds me of aya takano a little bit
although the illustrations themselves are very different
the cover is nice and cushioned, I don't know if it's a widespread thing
but my book smells like a gym mat
I like the cuteness of the characters and I like how it's mixed with ''guro'' elements
some of the illustrations have exposistion to them, which is fun reading
all in all a very good artbook if you are looking for kawaii-guro hallucination fuel lol

5.0 out of 5 stars Sexy, Scary, Sweet 31 May 2003
By E. F. Romano - Published on Amazon.com
The design of this book alone is impressive, from the spongy plastic pink cover embossed with a Mizuno illustration, to the layout of each page and presentation of Mizuno's work. Its a cross between a comic book and art book. When you thumb through Mizuno's work you begin to understand what a prolific artist she is and that she has a message to communicate. Her illustrations of the female figure combine many elements, a cute anime look, yet a transgressive maniacal twist in some scenes (blood rain, butcher knives), tender at times, vicious at others. Mizuno communicates the many aspects to female sexuality in a way that elicits a reaction in the viewer--confusion, laughter, fear, disgust, awe. Definitely a unique point of view and a unique book. I'm happy to own a copy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dynamite artbook from an exceptional artist 28 July 2006
By Bumble - Published on Amazon.com
If you love Junko Mizuno's comics and artwork, then this book is definitely your next step! It shows a very broad range of her work divided up by range of years; one very cool section is made up of bios of the characters in her illustrations. It comes in a funky, glittery pink plastic slipcover and there's even a little paper doll in the back! Forty bucks is a great price for such a high-quality artbook. Junko Mizuno fans are sure to love it; I would even recommend this to people who simply love collecting the work of amazing artists.
