Japanese paving the way in horror, 4 Mar 2003
It's no secret that the Japanese are producing some of the finest horror films today:Ring, Ring 2, Audition. With 'Junk ,we have a homage to the zombie movies of Romero and Fulci. Four criminals rob a jewerly store with the intent to sell the stolen gold to a pyscotic, white haired Yakuza. The meeting place for the exchange: a disused warehouse where it just so happens there is a lab full to the brim of some green toxic substance that brings the dead back to life as flesh eating zombies. The warehouse conveniently has a dozen or so dead bodies lying around that act as the zombies. Gory, cliched, funny, low budget, badly acted, but one of the best films i have seen in a while and strongly reccomended

5 stars for the film but minus 2 stars for poor quality dvd., 30 April 2003
an excellent film ruined by a poor transition to dvd.once again Artsmagic have made a mid budget dolby surround movie into a low-budget muffled stereo by a bad transition to dvd. i recomend the film highly as an excellent example of japanese zombie horror - this film takes in reanimator, day of the dead & night of the living dead to make a fantastic zombie flick, but like i say above the poor quality of dvd lowers the over-all value of the film. if you like zombie films check out also: versus (swords, yakuza & zombies in an enchanted-evil forest) & wild zero (comedy, kitsch, 50's r'n'roll & zombies)

Not your typical Asian Horror, 12 May 2008
The Amazon synopsis for this film is somewhat lacking, here's a more slightly more detailed explanation of the film. The government have been testing a new drug that will bring the dead back to life. They have been doing this testing in a disused warehouse. The film opens with our main characters taking part in a jewelry store robbery, where they then rendezvous with a local Yakuza leader to exchange the jewels for cash, only problem is the meeting place is the previously mentioned warehouse. I'm sure you can fill in the rest. There is also a little bit of a sub plot about why this drug was created and how the original chemist is now off the project but needs to be called back in to remedy the situation.
You've got your host of cliché characters here. Sexy Bad-Ass Leather Chick, Play it Super Cool Yakuza Boss and Eccentric Side Kick (if you have seen Bio Zombie, this character is quite similar to Crazy Bee in that film). The characters are all likeable and help put together a fun horror-action movie.
Several reviews comment on the quality of this film and the transfer to DVD. The quality isn't top notch, in Japan it's perfectly acceptable to shot a film in DV, and that's what I think has happened here. The film just looks very grey, the outside scenes look like they shot on the worst day of the year just before a hurricane was about to hit.
Most of the film is in Japanese and is subtitled in English, the subtitles are good and the language feels very English. One of the subtitles even has a character saying "This'll be a doddle". There are a few English speaking characters in the film, however all the English is not only subbed in English (for hard of hearing I assume) but also hard subbed in Japanese underneath, which can be quite disorientating when reading. Important Japanese signs are also subbed in English, which is nice.
The film clocks in at just over 80 minutes which makes for a nicely paced action/horror movie. The film never drags or feels slow. There are decent levels of gore through out which picks up more towards the climax, nothing crazy and over the top but well suited enough. The special effects are good and look realistic. This isn't your typical Asian Horror featuring glass eyed children putting the mental squeeze on you, this is an all out Japanese take on the classic Zombie genre, and a good one at that. If you don't mind a little bit of a low budget production with throw back to Romero then this is the film for you. Pick it up if you can get it cheap (New & Used) and you won't be disappointed.
Special features on the disc include trailers for; JUNK, Evil Dead Trap and Uzumaki.
