About the Author
Alan Rosen, the grandson of Junior's founder, Harry Rosen, is the third generation co-owner (with his father and brother, Walter and Kevin Rosen) of Junior's restaurants in Brooklyn, Times Square, and Grand Central Station, and manager of its worldwide mail-order business and website, juniorscheesecake.com. Having tasted some of these cheesecakes on my two visits to the shop in Grand Central station I know how good they taste. Thankfully the recipes do not disappoint they are easy to follow and of the two i have made they are delicious. Do yourself a favour and buy this book, you wont regret it!

I love cheesecakes and never tasted the Junior's cakes in NY; I was tempted to buy the book due to Junior's unique way of baking their cheesecakes in a tray of water and their sponge "crusts" (as opposed to the traditional biscuits crumbs with butter).
All the recipes contain cornflour, which creates a taste and consistency which both I and my other half really did not like (the Cappucino cheesecake ended up in the bin). It is a nice coffee table book that has quite a few good cheesecake inspiring ideas but I would not recommend it at all if one does not like the cornflour-based cheesecakes.
Perhaps (and I might) give this book another chance, but I do prefer George Geary's "The Cheesecake Bible". I have also baked several cheesecakes from BBC Good Food website and they all went down very well at dinner parties. Their recipes are relatively easy (and much faster to make/bake than the Junior's recipes) to make, the cakes are impressive and very tasty. One of my favourites is the "Tia Maria cheesecake" which has a "wet" consistency (the tia maria is incorporated in the top layer mixed with sour cream) really easy to make but looks and tastes impressive. And of course one can use any other liqueur - the beauty of cheesecakes is how you can add/remove and play with the flavours and ingredients.

In January 2012 my cousin took me to Junior's in New York. He loves their cheese cake. I tried it for the first time and could not disagree with him. When I got back home I wanted to make their cheese cake. I found the cook book on Amazon.com I have baked the original new york cheese cake a couple of times and it works for me. Of course it depends on the quality of the ingredients you use and the quantity. I use less sugar than the book prescribes. If you love cheese cake then I think it is a nice gadget for your bookcase.
