Product Description

Review

An excellent resource with differentiated questions, clear diagrams and interesting pictures. --Charlie Minogue, Head of Science, Aldwickbury School

This book, the first in a series of 3, is written by experienced teachers of this age range, provides a superb mix of relevant scientific fact, suggested practical activities and exercises. It will excite the curiosity of the young and stimulate their natural demand to know and understand more of the world of science about them. Children are innately curious and demand knowledge; it is our role to stimulate and guide their development. This book does this in full measure. --David Penter, Chairman of the ISEB Panel

Fantastic! The most scientifically detailed textbook I know for this age range. A colourful, vibrant book that is jam-packed with great science. Pupils will love to read this in school and at home. --Andrew Magnay, New College School, Oxford

5.0 out of 5 stars Best for science! 24 Mar 2010
By Outnumbered VINE VOICE
Like the previous reviewer, I'm also a homeschooler and have scoured through the net to find suitable science workbooks that incorporated information that wouldn't bog us down, included sufficient review questions and had a concise teacher's guide that didn't get me in a muddle and dreading to use it. I've tried other workbooks/teaching series' from Dorling Kindersley, CGP, Collins Education and this series from Galore Park (the pupil book and teacher's resource CD) is the best I've found by far. The others were either uninspiring or didn't include everything I needed. I still supplement the work we cover with other activities, but this is good for covering everything they're supposed to know for their age. The teacher's CD is quite expensive if bought new so I'd say it isn't absolutely necessary to buy if your budget is tight. The pupil book is brilliant.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun and intelligent - heads up, homeschoolers! 12 Aug 2009

We've looked at a lot of science materials for our 6yo fluent reader- this was streets ahead of the rest. From a homeschooling perspective, it's ideally suited: after every section, there are differentiated sets of questions, so I tend to quiz orally using one of these and then, when we come to the book again, use another to revise the topic before moving on. I also like that topics are short and sweet; they leave you wanting more, and you are not faced with a year of botany, for example. Suit 6-8ish. Excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Junior Science Book 1 27 Aug 2014
By S Riaz HALL OF FAME TOP 10 REVIEWER VINE VOICE

This is the first in a series of science books produced by Galore Park; consisting of three junior science books and followed by the ‘So you really want to learn Science?’ books, aimed at older children. Galore Park excel at producing excellent educational books and this is no exception. This book, Junior Science 1, is aimed at Year 3 children and, in fact, most Galore Park books are for Key Stage 2. The three Junior Science books are designed for Year 3 to Year 5 and are excellent for home schooling or to supplement work at home. Together, they give an excellent foundation in science and cover everything, and more, that your child will need to know.

These books are not workbooks as such and you will need a blank exercise book for writing answers (some can be written in the book, but most require longer written answers). This particular book covers the following: our bodies, vertebrates and invertebrates, rocks, magnets, light and shadows and materials. Each chapter is well laid out, packed with colourful photographs and diagrams and with exercises to reinforce knowledge, as well as extension questions to challenge children. Answers are available via the Galore Park website (the address is included in the book). If you are looking for an excellent resource to teach science, this is probably the best on the market and the whole Galore Park range of books are highly recommended.
