Despite this book being aimed at children, I bought it for my partner who has recently taken up art as a theraputic way of coping with stress. He'd been struggling to find a basic, step-by-step drawing book that REALLY is STEP-BY-STEP and that isn't patronising, too arty or too fussy. I happened across this book by chance and it is fantastic. I imagine it's aimed at children because it's so simple and straight forward, but both myself and my partner (in our 30's) have enjoyed this to no end and agree it's also perfect for adults who want non-pretentious art advice.

Really simple to follow instructions take you from Stage One (ovals and proportions) to Stage Four (detail and colour). The end product may look a little 'cartoony', but this can be avoided by working on the final picture by shading to create light and dark and texture, and by adding other little details.

It is simply fantastic - real fun for all the family. My 7-year-old nephew really enjoyed drawing the different types of monkeys, I enjoyed the birds and my partner is still trying to perfect his elephant!

I really cannot recommend this book enough. If you're considering it - go for it! I just wish there was a 'Landscapes' and a 'People' version!

This was one of 3 books I bought together to help a keen young artist to learn to draw. I am giving the same review to each book. Easy to follow and full of interest for young children. I recommend it.

I bought this for my 10 year old granddaughter as a sitting quietly activity during the Christmas mayhem. They obviously need to have a love of drawing in the first place but this was very successful and kept her quiet for ages. She is also able to access the instructions unsupervised which is a huge asset.

I bought this for my little girl who will be seven at Christmas. However having looked through it I think it may be a bit too old for her, maybe more for 9+ but I will guide her through it and hopefully she will get the hang of it.
