first things first: juneau is a rerecorded version of funeral for a frined's original song juno. got that? ok. this version brings matt davies' melodic vocals to the fore, making it more singalongable than it's predecessor, although many die-hard fans still prefer the original and shout at the band for ever changing it.
Of the two cds, this (CD1) is my favourite, as it features the B-side the getaway plan, a great track recorded around the time the band were recording their first EP, between order and model.
So overall, juneau good... quite possibly their best song, although it's like picking a diamond out of a pile of other shiny polished things...

I remember hearing the original recording "Juno" late one night & was utterly impressed, so much so that I managed to track down the "Between Order & Model" e.p (this being back in the day before they even released the 4 ways... ep) - It was a song that really just made you sit up & listen, at the time I thought it was one of the best tunes I'd heard in a long while....
And then they decided to re-record it for the album. Not only that they decide to kil the power & aggression of original. - The whole song's sound was suppressed for a more 'radio-friendly' version that no doubt got them more exposure but at the cost of ruining arguably their best track. The aggressive vocals were dropped, the guitar lines lost their edge & a new vocal line introduced that was possibly the most whiny & pointless vocal harmony f4af have ever written. Put simply, re-recording this song was (in my humble opinion) has ruined it.
Buy the "Between order & Model" ep if you don't believe me (also for 10:45 amsterdam conversations, another great tune) and judge for yourself.

having read all the reviews about funeral for a friend (you know, the millions of reviews that i mean - the ones that all heil ffaf as THE band to watch etc. etc.) i listened to their single with great anticipation. and at first, i wasn't too impressed. but then i listened again, and again and what i heard just struck me as a totally great song. juneau has everything you could possibly want from a great screamo song. it starts with a fairly relaxed riff, but after only 9 seconds explodes into life. not only does the song have a great riff, but the quiet section in the middle ("yet i'm nothing more, than a line in your book, yet i'm nothing more...") will stick in your head for days. and that is no bad thing. funeral for a friend are here to put british music on the map, and boy can they do it.

This is a brilliant single and you should definately consider buying it.. the only problem is when I listen to the album (casually dressed and deep in conversation) It always seems to be in the shawdow of the track 'bullet theory' maybe you should wait till they release that instead..
