Total Feel Good Music! 10 July 2011
In the short space of time I've had this item, it's become one of my all-time favourite compilations. In fact, it might just be the one item I'd take with me to a desert island!

I love jump blues and I've got a lot of compilations, but this is undoubtedly the best. It mixes the giants of the genre with total unknowns, but one thing's for sure - the quality is A1 all the way through. The saxes honk, the pianos pound, the drummers shuffle, the singers wail and, believe me, you'll feel good when you're listening to it!

The packaging is superb, too, with a selection of artist and label shots, some intriguing ads from the Jamaican press of the 50's and highly informative sleeve notes from Phil Etgart.

This compilation will appeal to everyone - reggae/ska fans who want to discover the roots of their music, R&B (proper R&B, that is) fans and music lovers who just want a blast of the most infectiously happy music ever produced. What's more, the price for three CDs containing over 80 tracks is an absolute bargain. How can anyone NOT like this compilation?

Great stuff! 3 Nov 2011
"Misleading packaging"! - Huh??? Contrary to what the very silly Johnny Pieterson claims in his one star review, this is very much Jamaican Sound System music. Music that shaped the later years where Jamaica finally got it's own recording facilities. Clearly this youngster is completely ignorant of Jamaica's musical heritage during that formative period. One only has to read the liners to understand the importance of the American R&B records which were constantly coming thru the airwaves during those halcyon days of the late 40s and into the 50s. A great compilation. I also heartily recommend 2 similar releases on this topic from EMI -"Original Jamaican Sound System Style" and "But Officer, More Original Jamaican Sound System". Both are also available on this site.

A Must Have 16 Sep 2011
I collect all types of music and I have a broad spectrum and depth of appreciation for all tpyes of music. I regularly listen to Jules Holland shows both TV and Radio and I've wanted to get some of that uplifting boogie woogie, shuffle, uplifting (to me) type of stuff but never known where to start. This my friends is the perfect answer. Not one "Dud" on the whole 3 cd set. This should be in any music collection it's a must for any blues fan as well.
Don't get put off by the "Jamaican Sound System" title. It's nothing to do with dub, reggae and all the other stereotypes associated genre/sounds that can immediately spring to mind. In short (because the amazing detailed booklet describes it all), this is the history of the ORIGINAL Jamaican Sound System.
