The actual material that relates to the jump rope training is fairly good as far as I can tell. But the way the material is structured could do with improving. For example, warm ups and stretching are at the back of the book rather than near the front. Also rather than simply establishing what benefits skipping provides in terms of sporting and conditioning improvements and then moving on to the training, the author intersperses frequent reminders about why skipping is so great, along with the testimonials of those who use the authors training routines. It felt as though the author was worried that readers would stop half way through the book, baffled as to why they were reading about skipping routines, and would return the book and demand their money back unless he kept hammering away about how skipping will solve your problems.
That said, the author obviously knows his stuff and introduces a range of jumping techniques, explains how to build up your timing and coordination so that you can do them, and then how to gain a basic level of conditioning that will allow you to move on to more advanced routines. He gives excellent advice on how you can use skipping for weight loss, cardio, general conditioning, or building speed and stamina. He even suggests routines for specific sports; everything from long distance running, to boxing, and ice-skating.
In summary, there's some good advice and information in this book but the way it's put together makes getting it a bit of a slog sometimes.

I was obese and wanted to loose weight but found difficulty with other exercises. Bicycle = saddle sores; running = couldn't last for more than 10 seconds; swimming = you must be joking.

One day I was looking online for "the best exercise to burn calories" and believe it or not, jumping rope was above running for the amount of calories burned per hour. Factor into this that I can do it at home, in the privacy of my garden, with no-one to laugh at me and I decided to give it a try.

Between FEB-2014 and MAY-2014 I lost 4 stones in weight (basically a stone a month) and I am hooked.

This book goes into detail how to begin skipping rope right up to some very advanced training. It's easy to read and surprisingly effective. Do I look like the guy on the book's cover? No. I need to loose another 4 stones first. But hey, I'm half-way there.

(Obviously you also need to buy a jump-rope and actually do the exercises - sitting looking at the book won't help.)

This is a superb book, I didn't know there was so much to skipping. The book outlines benefits for all sports persons and fitness participants, not just boxers. It improves co-ordination, foot speed and sports performance, muscle tone, cardio-vascular fitness. There are programmes that take you gradually through various levels of fitness and accomplishment, from the basics to advanced hard-core skipping. The book contains advice on types of rope, different steps, routines, benefits of skipping and lots more. I had no idea this form of exercise could be so beneficial and shows just how under-rated skipping, or jump rope training is, as an aid to training, performance and fitness. If you do any sport or just want to burn fat and maintain fitness, I would recommend this book and a good quality jump rope and get skipping! Seems like boxers had it right all along, I can't understand why it's been such a well kept secret for this long

It starts from the basis and gradually gets you into the skipping world, good for someone who likes to polish his skills and excellent for someone with not experience. It takes its time to explain how important is to adquire good habits in the beginning, not always considered important but mainly the cause of common injuries. It would be nice to have it in ebook reader edition.
