Bought this CD after reading the other reviews on Amazon. Sooooo glad I did. Bit dubious on 1st listening, but cannot stop fast forwarding now on MP3 player to get to this album. A real "feel good" CD which has me bopping in my seat on the train journey to work. I'm a die-hard SWW fan anyway, but this is just that bit different and the boys have done themselves proud again.

THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE 2008 REISSUE OF "JUMP, BOOGIE & JIVE".

"JUMP BOOGIE & JIVE" was the 9th studio album and was recorded in 1991, about 8 years after "LIVING LEGENDS". By the time this album was recorded, 3 members of the band had left and the 5 remaining were joined by lead guitarist Ray Martinez. The album begins and ends with the title track and there are some very good covers on here too. There is Fats Domino's "I'm Walking", Bill Haley's classic "Rock A Beatin' Boogie", Elvis Presley's "You're The Devil In Disguise", and a medley of "Red Hot" & "Tutti Frutti", 2 rock 'n' roll classics originally recorded by Billy Lee Riley and Little Richard. There are also some great self penned tracks including Dave Bartram's "Tellin' Tales Outta School", and "Treat Her Right" written by Ray Martinez. The album also includes "Why?", a song that was previously released as a single on the Tiger label in 1987, and a surprisingly cool accapella medley of 3 previous SWW hits. The bonus tracks are "Sympathy" and "Rockin' & Rollin' With Santa Claus" which were issued on a promo only single on the President label in 1990, and "Out On The Town", the B side of "Why?". The song "Sympathy" is the only time Trevor Oakes had sung lead vocals in the studio. I highly recommend to any SWW fans, if you don't own this CD already, BUY IT! You won't be disappointed.

"Well you must dig boogie, or you wouldn't be here tonight..." are the opening lines of 'Jump, Boogie & Jive' and this (the band's 9th studio album from 1991) provides quality rock 'n' roll for all lovers of boogie from the start.

In January 2008 I had the pleasure of writing the sleeve notes for this CD release, and therefore most of my comments are there in the booklet - but the main value of this reissue comes with the bonus tracks included. "Out On The Town" was planned as a stand-alone single release in 1984 but fell through the cracks owing to their record company at the time (RCA); it surfaced as the b-side of their 1987 single "Why?" and is one of Dave Bartram's best (and most commercial) songs.

Their 1990 Christmas single "Rockin' & Rollin' With Santa Claus" is a nice follow-on from "Hey Mr. Christmas" in 1974 and is a catchy & concise track; the b-side "Sympathy" has a great chorus but seems to be in search of a decent verse. Still it's the only time you'll hear guitarist Trevor Oakes singing lead vocals in the studio (he also wrote the track).

7Ts / Cherry Red have done their usual excellent job with the packaging, and rare album & single sleeves, ticket stubs, press releases etc. are scattered throughout the booklet - it's a great release and a worthy addition to the Showaddywaddy back catalogue.
