Jump Ahead 2000 Starting School Triple Pack

Jump Ahead 2000 Starting School Triple Pack

Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Suitable for youngsters aged four to five years old

Made up of the bestselling Jump Ahead 2000: Starting Maths, Jump Ahead 2000: Starting Reading and Jump Ahead 2000: Starting School, the Jump Ahead 2000 Starting School Compilation is exceptional value.

Updated for the new millennium, the individual CD-ROMs improve upon a tried and tested formula that will not only entertain school starters, but will aid their language and mathematical development and familiarise them with the classroom environment. In Starting School Mr Hopsalot the rabbit introduces your toddler to the classroom, with sing-a-longs, games and other activities to reinforce the basic skills: sorting, sequencing, telling the time, simple sentences and matching pairs are all part of the fun. But the really clever feature is that the software itself adapts to your youngster's difficulty level, so that whether they are streets ahead or taking their time, they will be coaxed along and stretched to do better. And as a special bonus once all the hard work is complete, you can take photographs and store them in an album.

In Starting Maths your child can develop maths and logic skills without even knowing. Because he or she will be called upon to help in the preparations for the giant's birthday: there are balloons to be blown up and sorted, ribbons to be measured, dances to be sequenced and guests to be catered for. Basic addition and subtraction are, of course, covered, but in addition there's chance to test sorting, problem solving, differences and similarities and basic logic.

Starting Reading is the obvious yet perfect compliment to this selection, concentrating as it does on the linguistic pillars that will be of use throughout the rest of your child's life. Spelling, grammar, rhyming and reading comprehension exercises are all presented as fun activities so that your youngster will be learning without noticing.

Friendly cartoon graphics make the Jump Ahead world colourful, fun and appealing, and this series has been developed under the guidance of educational experts to tie in with National Curriculum Key Stage 1. This is an excellent package for reception-class pupils (aged four and five), and it offers unparalleled value. A must-buy for school starters. --Sophie Lowe

5.0 out of 5 stars Jump Ahead is streets ahead, 15 Oct 2000
By B Ellis (LONDON) - See all my reviews
The starting school pack caught my eye due to the fact I already have "Jump Ahead Baby" which my two year old loves. The price was also very attractive.

The three CDs are easy to install and once up and running my four year old loved the "Starting School" CD. She enjoyed moving around the classroom finding out what moved and what games she could play, enjoying the games greatly.

To gain the maiximum out of this cd some experience of the use of the mouse is essential as the games do require some fine movement of the controls, skills which the manufacturors imagine have been homed with the use of the earlier software in this range. With this assumption in mind the software is designed to ensure further development of mouse skills while supporting the development of knowledge of the alphabet, number symbols and quantity, pattern making and phonics all of which are vital for any child entering school.

With phonics in mind the use of an English accent thoroughout is a plus point for children within English school as is the emphasis on initial sounds.

Overall the games are fun and the themes of the CD especially the birthday party theme of the "Starting Maths" CD ensure your child will be interested in completing as many tasks and games as possible to prepare for the party. The games can be set at appropriate levels of difficulty therefore providing scope for development of skills as the child progresses and ensuring further value for money. This option is given to the child during the games on the Maths CD with lots of praise and encouragement from the narrator so some children can really use them independently.

The ability to check through the " report card" on what you child has achieved on the games is also an excellent facility for parents to use and can highlight areas where support may be needed.

The characters are friendly and it is lovely to see a variety of children used within the animation, reflecting our multicultural society and giving children characters to relate to within the games.

As a Nursery Nurse who's job it is to prepare children for reception class I found these CD very clear and enjoyable and they reinforce the skills that children should have upon entering reception class.

This means that the assumption is your child will have knowledge already of letter shapes and sounds, of number symbols and counting ability to work with this software independantly. However it is a good way of teaching these skills to your child if using the software with them and an excellent way of streching and developing those skills of children already comfortable with these concepts.

I would recommend this pack to anyone with a reception age child, or younger if they already have the appropriate skills. The child will enjoy them and the adult can also enjoy supporting the child in the tasks as well. I will certainly be buying the earlier software in this range for my younger child and progressing onto the year one and two software as my daughter develops.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent software for 4-5 year olds, 15 Nov 2000
My five year old son finds this triple CD set fun, fun, fun. Well thought out story lines, packed with content and ideal for inquisitive minds, I would recommend this set to any parent or teacher . Much better value than any software I've seen on the market this year.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Superb, 29 May 2001
Jump Ahead Toddlers is worth the price of the pack on its own. These imaginative products really engage your child's mind in so many ways. Aside from being fun that your child will return to time after time, they teach the alphabet and numbers, the names of shapes, colours, animals and things, and even include a series of songs to sing along with. Our eldest boy started with Jump Ahead Baby at twelve months. Now he's three and using Jump Ahead Pre-School, and his younger brother is just getting started. We have the computer configured so that Joshua (3) has to log in before he can play, and he manages this all by himself. He even shuts Windows down properly at the end! Thoroughly recommended.
