Product Description

Have any old films or slides? Here's the perfect device to help you easily organize and eternalize them. This scanner sports a powerful 14-megapixel sensor that reads every detail contained in your 35mm, 110, 126, 127, and Super 8 slides and negatives. You can choose between the standard 14-megapixels scan, or enable the built-in software interpolation, which applies some image magic and ups the quality to an astonishing 22MP.

All you need to convert your images is included in the box - advanced technology leave no need for a computer connection to operate this scanner. It scans and converts images on its own, making it a very portable, accessible solution. It also includes speed-load adapters that make scanning easy and straightforward. Simply push them into the device, and you can feed in slides or negatives one after the after without needing to remove and reload the adapters. Press the "Scan" button when ready. Snap! The Jumbl image digitizer scans and converts your old memories into sharp, vibrant digital images in JPEG format. Images are saved to the internal memory or an optional SD card. These can then be viewed on your computer or other device, or printed out as regular photos.

Once scanning is complete, the built-in 2.4-inch color LCD screen will display your image. A clever piece of software allows you to flip & mirror the scanned image around by pressing a few buttons. This helps compensate for user error during scanning, and also adds some flexibility with image conversion. In addition, you can also adjust scanning resolution, brightness and coloration in the easy-to-navigate Capture menu.

I teach a class at the local senior center for people who want to document their family history, so a film/slide scanner is a valuable tool. This one is easy to use which is great for my seniors, some of whom are a little technically-challenged. It doesn't require a computer so it's less daunting than something hooked up a computer. It's writes to an SD card and many of my students have iPads, so after they scan their photos I just plug the card into an SD adapter on their iPad and the photos transfer over to their Photo App. From there they can email them to their families or arrange them into albums.

The best part of this device is that it has a screen so you can view the photo before you commit to scanning it. The screen is a little small so some of my students use a magnifying glass when they use it, but for most people it should be fine. I haven't had a chance to try it with super-8 film, but I'm hoping that someone in the next class has some reels in the attic that they want to try out.

This is a nice, compact little unit and gives very nice results.

Verified Purchase
Been using this for three days now, probably about nine hours in total and I've digitalised over 2000 negatives. This thing is fast if you don't want to adjust exposures, colours etc. My only occasional adjustments have been to exposure, which I would assume is better to do on the negative rather than in Photoshop etc. Average file size comes out at 1.82 megabites which opens at about A4 size on my computer. Quality is what I would have expected and with a good recent negative is excellent, on 30 year old negatives it's grainy but still very useable. Photoshop can bring the colour right on these old negatives but can't do a lot to improve the overall quality. I've tried a few old 126 films taken with a cartridge camera 30 plus years ago and I was very pleased with the results. I thought that it would take years to transfer all of my boxes of old negatives but a few more days and it will be done, 5000 plus pictures of family history on the computer where they can be appreciated, shared and enjoyed once again. But ..... the really great thing about this photo scanner is that you are not tied to a computer, just put it on a tray, plug it in (much better than battery powered) and away you go. In the garden, in front of the TV, in fact anywhere. I've been looking for years for something like this with a good resolution and easy to use, and this is it. I love it, am thoroughly enjoying using it, and would definitely recommend it.

If you are looking for a quick, easy and efficient way to transfer your old film slides, negatives or other supported media, the Jumbl is a great way to go.

The Jumbl can be used without a computer at all (at least to copy and look at photos). Simply plug the power in, mount your media in the proper media tray (if required, not all media needs a tray) and start feeding it through. If you want to go this route, without using a computer (it IS the fastest way to go if you don't want to edit every photo individually), you will want to purchase a SD memory card as well. The Jumbl can accept up to 32 GB SD cards. There is some built in memory (128 MB, that's MEGABYTE, not GB/Gigabyte), and this will work for smaller amounts of slides, but not recommended.

Connecting to the computer via USB, the scanner shows up as a memory device and you just copy your files off of it and onto your computer. Unfortunately you can't connect the scanner as a scanner to your computer - it only appears as a memory device. Maybe a future version can offer RAW type capability for a slightly easier workflow?

There are some available adjustments in the scanner for adjusting the exposure value, or you can also adjust the RGB values to get the "right" color during your scan. You can edit all of this in Photoshop/PS Elements/Lightroom/Whatever program you use for photos, and for simplicity sake I recommend just scanning with this and bulk applying adjustments to your photos in Lightroom.

One thing I would like to see in the next model is RAW capture capability. This way I can have complete control over exactly what is captured, with easier options for editing in Lightroom. Even without this though, this scanner is great.

Now THIS is a device we've all been waiting for. For those of us from the age when film cameras were used instead of digital cameras, or cell phone cameras, etc and have a stack of boxes of 35 mm slides, and film that is all but antiquated in this digital age, out come JUMBL with this dream of a machine. It is so easy that the instructions seem unnecessary. In minutes it scans & digitizes 35mm slides and negatives, 110, 126 KPK, 127 film, and Super 8 Slides & Negatives into digital images that can be shared from computer to computer, stored in a meaningful non-space consuming file, and printed at will. The aspect that seems most significant is the ease with scanning 35mm slides. The loader couldn't be better designed and it serves to make the process of scanning multiple slides so easy and so fast.

As far as destination, it is compatible with all Windows and Mac operating systems. And you don't need to have a computer near by when scanning the `films' onto the internal memory of the device.

This is a definite improvement over JUMBL's first scanner - it just does so much more! Highly Recommended. Grady Harp, July14
