4.0 out of 5 stars One for fans of Birgitte Hjort Sørensen 31 Jan 2012
This 2011 film Julie - en kamp om kærlighed features star of the winter 2012 BBC4/DR Danish hit Borgen - Series 1 [DVD] Birgitte Hjort Sørensen in the title role. Loosely based on Swedish August Strinberg's play Miss Julie, Sørensen appears in most scenes of the film.
A spoilt tennis player Julie throws herself into the arms of her coach Jan (Rolf Hansen) quite indifferent to the fact that he already has a fiance Kristine (Trine Appel). As one evening progresses it seems that Julie is losing her manipulative power game.
The film has received mixed reviews in the Danish press in general seeing it as a mediocre film. I was particulary interested in seeing Sørensen in a different role to that of journalist Katrine in Borgen. Julie is certainly a different girl to Katrine and 10/10 to Sørensen for making her part so believable.
The film is around 75 minutes long and is entirely in Danish with English subtitles.
The first series of Borgen ends in a few days, this is the ideal replacement for admirers of Sørensen until series 2.

2.0 out of 5 stars Bring back Katrine 5 Jan 2014
Oh dear. The lovely Birgitte looks stunning at times as Julie but this film is utter garbage. Wobbly and baffling storyline, wooden direction, cheap sets. This was made as a quick and dirty vehicle to exploit Birgitte Sorenson who is fantastic as Katrine in Borgen. Julie in this film is seriously unhinged and allowed the idiot tennis coach to kill her pet dog as well as have sex with her in a particularly unromantic and un-erotic way. The characters all hate each other and the mobster guy threatening her exploitative father is a cartoon of a man. I expected a lot more, Borgen this ain't.
