The repertoire here is a beautifully chosen and varied one. It includes pieces that will be familiar to all classical guitar enthusiasts, with compositions by Carulli, Albeniz and Granados. Giuliani's "Variazioni Concertanti" is particularly wonderful, and illustrates writing for the guitar at its peak. Some more unusual choices, transcribed from various settings for guitar duet, include Debussy's beautiful "Clair de Lune" and "Reverie" on CD 1. On CD 2, Faure's "Dolly, Op.56" is a beautifully arranged piece, originally written for piano, four hands, and it suits the intimate sound of the guitar perfectly.
It goes without saying that both Bream and Williams play superbly here, and there is a real sense of joy, both in the wonderful music they both love so much, and in the rare experience of performing with another guitarist who is their equal musically and technically. They play with passion and precision, and seem to revel in every note and nuance of the music.
If you love guitar music, this double album is a must, and since it includes all the material from both "Julian Bream & John Williams - Together" and "Julian Bream & John Williams - Together Again" at around half the price, it's also a real bargain.
