Product Description

Review

Stills from the original series are augmented by the famous line drawings from Wainwright's original books and evocative landscape photography by Derry Brabbs; his double-page photographs at the start of each chapter are truly stunning! Julia treats us to a 'behind the camera' personal view of the making of this successful and very popular T.V. series. I enjoyed reading her 'overview' at the beginnning of each chapter in which her sensitivity to what she sees in such beautiful landscapes, along with her response to it, is well expressed in her warm and competent writing style. A lovely book

(Keswick Reminder)

'The Countryfile star picks her 10 favourite routes ... it does give very detailed descriptions, which can be used to plot a course yourself - equally it's a great one for armchair walkers happy to enjoy the sights and sounds of the hills from the comfort of their own home'

(Wanderlust)

'In her book, peppered with pub recommendations, anecdotes and pictures of misty peaks and craggy contours, Julia Bradbury pays tribute to Wainwright'

(Lonely Planet)

'a thorough guide for beginner walkers and experts alike, with Julia's first-hand experiences, factual information and important tips.'

I enjoy watching Julia Bradbury's shows and thought a guidebook by her would be good.
The narrative is good, just not what I was looking for.
I misread the description. I thought the Wainwright sketches would be maps. So it was my error.

If you want to read about Julia's journey, then buy this book.
If you want a guide book for planning your own Coast to Coast walk, choose a different one.
I have had luck with the Trailblazer series before and I purchased the Trailblazer for this route, but I wanted to get a second guidebook to compare it to because the Trailblazer book for Coast to Coast, just didn't seem as good as the Trailblazer books I got for The Ridgeway and The Cotswold Way. I can't put my finger on it...it was just an over-all feeling.

Anyway Julia can sure tell a story. I'd say this is book would be perfect for an "Armchair Traveller" or for someone who might be wondering if they want to do the Coast to Coast path. Just remember -- there are no maps.

Another light but interesting read. Did find the map details a bit wanting (but then I'm like that). Actual use on the ground was fine. It is more of a JB tribute to AW that as a comprehensive book to use in the field.
