Book Description

7 Jan 2011 Mills & Boon RIVA
Lex Gibson is..."nervous." The prospect of spending a weekend working with Romy, the only woman to ever touch his legendary guarded heart, has the lion of the corporate world..."unsettled."

The tension between free-spirited Romy and buttoned-up Lex simmers dangerously. To complicate things further, Romy has a tiny daughter, who has Lex confused and distracted. They say never to mix business with pleasure, but Romy's adorable baby might just seal their very "personal" business deal--and change their family situation forever!

4.0 out of 5 stars Role-Reversal Romance 13 Jan 2011
By Book Gannet TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback
Lex Gibson is nervous, and with good reason. Firstly, he's sitting on a plane when he hates flying. Secondly, he's hopefully about to secure the deal that might finally make him a success in his thankless father's eyes. Thirdly, he's about to come face-to-face with the only woman he's ever loved. And who he hasn't really seen since she broke his heart twelve years ago. Not that he's nervous. Not at all. He's just impatient. Really.

At eighteen, Romy didn't fully appreciate Lex and all he had to offer. Not that that means anything now. She might be accompanying him on this business trup, and he might tempt her more than ever, but deep down Romy hasn't changed. She's still independent and ready to flee at the first sign of emotion. Oh, and she has a baby now. Perhaps not so unchanged, after all, but the addition of Freya can only make things more impossible... right?

An intriguing role-reversal of the old commitment-phobe and the emotionally-wounded ex. Lex is cool, sophisticated and as stuck on Romy as ever, while she's the reckless free spirit who refuses to be tied down. With a shared history and a strong attraction, everything is set up for a brief fling. And then there's Freya. And a small matter of a fictitious engagement that could help seal this deal beyond doubt.

With the theme of fatherhood running deep throughout this tale, it's surprisingly emotional at times, considering its short length. And yes I did want to give Romy a good, hard shake occasionally, but Freya is a cutie and Lex is lovely, if a little staid. At times wistful, with more than a little romance and a hefty kick of independence, this was a great read. I'll be tracking down more of Jessica Hart's stories soon.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worse read in a long time 12 July 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
The story could have been a nice romance, predictable, but nice to read on a beach during the holidays.
Unfortunately it is so badly written that after the first chapter I wanted to throw the book away. We get from the first 2 pages that the 2 characters who lived a week of passion 12 years ago are still in love with each other. So no need to hammer that every two pages by listening to their thoughts (once him, once her and so on) about kissing, touching or getting the other one undressed. This adds nothing to the story and feels more like the author needed to fill some pages in.

5.0 out of 5 stars 4.5 blue ribbons from Romance Junkies 20 Jan 2011
By C. Dionne - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Lex Gibson is very business oriented but seems to possess few people skills. He's got a reputation for being cold and detached but where Romy, an old flame, is concerned emotion makes maintaining his control impossible. Lex is about to learn that there's more to life than business but nothing prepared him for meeting Romy's little girl or the extreme attachment he feels for both of them.

Romy Morrison is a free spirit who enjoys adventure and loves getting to know people. Her travels came to an end when a holiday fling resulted in an unexpected pregnancy. She doesn't regret having Freya but finding decent employment and supporting the baby have been a challenge so she wasn't about to turn down a temporary position at Gibson & Grieve. She just wasn't expecting the added perk of seeing Lex so discomfited by the presence of a baby.

Lex is about to embark on an extremely important business trip and the last thing he needs is to be distracted. Unfortunately he knew that was a pipe dream from the moment he received a phone call informing him that a family emergency would be preventing Tim Banks, Director of Acquisitions, from accompanying him. Tim had however arranged for Romy, who's been working with him on the negotiations, to take his place. Lex isn't pleased with this sudden change of plans but as long as she's an asset in closing the deal he can't complain or so he thought until she arrives at the plane with an assortment of baby paraphernalia and an infant.

Lex isn't at all pleased with the thought of an infant traveling on what should be strictly a business venture. After a battle of wills, Lex concedes and Romy and Freya are seated and the plane takes off. Lex is under the impression that all he needs is a good business sense to secure this business deal which should finally garner his father's respect but Romy is aware that Willy Grant, the owner of Grant's Supersavers, is very family oriented and Lex has a reputation for being anything but.... In Romy's opinion, Freya could be an asset in this deal. What neither Lex nor Romy anticipate is just how complicated their situation would become when Willy assumes that they're a couple and they choose not to correct him.

Jessica Hart draws readers into Lex and Romy's story with a rather humorous battle of wills that had me anxious to find out which of them would back down first. Juggling BRIEFCASE & BABY is a difficult prospect for many women but Romy does it with such class and honesty that you can't help but admire her. At the same time, Lex's one track obsession with business is costing him happiness. Combine Lex and Romy's vastly different personalities and there are sure to be fireworks - that is when he isn't fumbling his way through helping care for Freya. Diaper duty is definitely not his forte. BRIEFCASE & BABY is as endearing as it is emotionally charged, definitely a story you're sure to enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Refreshing fun romance! 5 Nov 2010
By D. Merrimon Crawford - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Lex Gibson has a job to do. He must secure a contract with the chief executive of Gibson and Grieve. To make matters worse, the Director of Acquisitions has assigned Romy Morrison to assist him. As for Romy, she certainly wasn't ready for the last minute call! Rushing to get herself and her young daughter ready for a flight, she doesn't even have much time to think about the prospect of spending so much time so close to Lex. Determined to prove herself, especially as a single mother, she will put their past history behind them and do all she can to seal the deal. Lex himself also wants prove himself professionally. No matter what, he must get this deal signed. When Lex and Romy agree to pretend marriage to rehabilitate Lex's playboy image, neither quite expects the outcome. Will these two professionals, now forced to play a dream, find the love they once thought lost?

JUGGLING BRIEFCASE AND BABY is a perfect romance choice to kindle the heart with warmth, hope and joy this winter season. From the very beginning, Jessica Hart takes the reader into both Lex's mind and heart as he waits for the plane's departure. One just can't but love him! JUGGLING BRIEFCASE AND BABY brings together several lovable characters in a humorous conflict that truly brings out the best in all. The love between Lex and Romy is so infectious that even the difficult Alexander Gibson changes in their presence. Jessica Hart fills this romance with comic scenes as Lex and Romy get themselves into more and more difficult situations. As Lex and Romy reveal their most intimate hopes and disappointments with each other, they get to know each other in ways they could not when they were younger. By the end, both have truly earned the love they once sought.

JUGGLING BRIEFCASE AND BABY is a great romance to choose to renew one's own sense of hope and delight after a long tiring day. The vibrant characters re-energize a reader. Lex and Romy's romance is just downright fun. Their innate goodness and romantic chemistry shines through on each page. Superb!
