Book Description

1 May 2014

Camilleri, best known for his Inspector Montalbano series, presents the charming Judge Surra who moves to a small Sicilian town in the late nineteenth century. He does not quite understand the quirky welcoming gifts from the locals, but nothing stands in the way of his quest for justice - and pastries.

Lucarelli brings us a far darker story. Judge Valentina Lorenzi - La Bambina - is so young and inexperienced she hardly merits a bodyguard. But when she barely survives an assassin's bullet, her black-and-white world of crime and punishment turns a deathly shade of grey.

In The Triple Dream of the Prosecutor, De Cataldo, a judge himself, crafts a Kafkaesque tale of a lifelong feud between Prosecutor Mandati and the corrupt Mayor of Novere. When the mayor narrowly escapes a series of bizarre assassination attempts, Mandati begins to realise that all his dreams may just be coming true.

From Italy's premiere crime authors, three novellas from every tradition of crime writing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Virtue in a land of vices 7 May 2014
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
This is a collection of long short stories by three different authors. It concerns two judges and a prosecutor. Their roles seem to overlap in Italy. There is a gentle humour and readability about all three. Italy seems to be extremely corrupt, but these three are not. The translations are well done and this book is very entertaining.
Crimes are committed all over the place, but you feel there is hope.

5.0 out of 5 stars Contrasting stories by three excellent writers 27 May 2014
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
All were very well written and entertaining. I particularly enjoued the Andrea Camellieri - very amusing as the newly arrived Judge simply does not understand what is going on and remains in blissful ignorance!

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent short stories 12 Jun 2014
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I really enjoyed all the short stories because they give a very good insight into the Italian Justice System which is of course very different to the British or even other European Systems. The authors are also all very good and know their subject very well.
