In April 2007, the band is set to release, their next album Judgement, a release that promises to be, their most powerful and unique album ever. Having already broken the boundaries, between electronic, industrial and other alternative music styles on Matter and Form, VNV Nation take this to another level on their new album. The album draws on a variety of styles and influences resulting in a sound that is a collision of energy, emotion, insight, past and future, while still expressing those unique qualities that make VNV Nation's music unique. Judgement is an album of contrasts and comparisons. Lyrically, it is range of interpretations of the album title and ultimately, an analysis of today's world, its values, ethics, psyche and direction as well as where each of us is going within our own life and search for answers. "The Farthest Star" and "Carry You" provide anthemic, hopeful and powerful outlooks on the world we live in. The fast paced, pounding bass-line, melody, synth guitar sounds and Ronan Harris's thought provoking vocals ring through on "Nemesis" as one of VNV's most aggressive anthems to date as the line "Judgement Day's not coming, soon enough" sums up. "Testament", could be described as an electronic-indie Anthem. "Momentum" adds a dark industrial-trance flavor to the album and the band's ever-expanding repertoire. The omniscient "Descent" hits the listener hard with dark rhythms while its lyrics describe complete devastation, giving the yin to the yang of the ethereal ballad "Secluded Spaces", a track that makes you feel like nothing in the world could be more beautiful. The album is completed with the ballad "Illusion" and the tracks "Prelude" and "As it fades" which seem more like the opening and closing title music to a great film than the start and end of an album of musical work. As a whole, every piece flows and ties together to result in an ever-changing album that makes you think and move.

What can i say, VNV have always been a little hit and miss with me, ive never really found an album of theirs that i could sit through and enjoy every song. Well now i take that all back. They have managed to produce a deep, varied and extremley well rounded record. Containing a wonderful balance of electro, industrial and even classical. Each song has layers of truth and meaning, of which most of us will be able to relate too. Those looking for killer dance songs [e.g. chrome] will find slavation in tracks such as Testament, Momentum and Nemesis, and those looking for a song you can loose yourself in will also find something on here with Illusion and The Farthest Star. I really cannot reccomend this enough, if your a fan of VNV already, i doubt you will be dissappointed, and if your not this is a great introductory album to a great band

You could perhaps say just another techno/electro/industrial/whatever album? No. It is so much more. I don't have anything significant to add, but this review software insisted.

I am astounded at the luke warm reviews that this album has received. It is conceptually brilliant, lyrically beautiful, internally cohesive and utterly unique. It has the weight, power, nobility, profundity and real feeling of a work by Beethoven or Wagner. It has a real message. And on top of all this, it also KICKS ASS! Not often you can rave to something deep and meaningful - maybe A23 or Primal Scream comes to mind.
I guess it's a personal preference, but most of the VNV fans I know love the album as much as I do. Heck, it is worth buying just for the last 4 absolutely stunning tracks, Secluded Spaces, Illusion, Carry You and As it Fades. In fact it's worth buying just for any 1 of these!

more grown up
been a big fan of vnv for years,this album is brilliant,,, still as some pumping tracks on it, but does tend to lean more towards electronic ballards, hey maybe they growing up!!!! Read more
