Very disappointed that eposodes 5 &6 omitted. Was advertised as complete series 5 and for that reason I chose this Dutch version at extra cost.

4.0 out of 5 stars Judge John Deed 26 Dec 2012
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
Why oh why are the British public not trusted to be ethical with episodes 5 & 6 of series 5 of this fantastic drama? Considering what trash IS available - it is totally unacceptable to 'cut' these two crucial episodes from the series. Simple question - WHY?

5.0 out of 5 stars John Deed 2 April 2010
Format:DVD
If you liked the previous series you need have no hesitation in buying Series 5. It's more of the same but without repetition. The characters are maturing as you would expect if this were real life.

5.0 out of 5 stars jjd review series 5 9 Aug 2009
Format:DVD
The 5th season of jjd(or at least 4 of the 6 episodes) continues the well-written, well thoughtout, story of Judge John Deed(played by the excellent Martin Shaw)on his crusade to try to help bring wrongdoers to justice whilst trying to keep the home office at bay. This is TV at it's best, with Shaw consistently stealing the show with is roguish charm and his refusal to submit to the status quo. His chief target is the Home secretary, who constantly battles to tie a noose around Deed's neck, only to see the Judge slip loose time and again. Supporting Shaw are love interest Jenny Seagrove as barrister Jo Mills, the wonderfully charismatic and entertaining Donald Sinden and all the usual suspects such as Caroline Langrishe as Deed's ex-wife, the aforementioned home secretary and Simon Ward. The episode to look out for here is the one where the known racist eats part of the black man he has killed whilst they shared a cell. Don't eat lunch before watching, and you probably won't want it after! All in all a grade 1 programme. Pity that it has now finished. ED C Gray

3.0 out of 5 stars BEWARE DUTCH VERSION!! 11 Jun 2013
By Savita
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
This is listed as the Dutch version but we received a Dutch set in error when we ordered the English set and had to return it. Here's why you may not want the Dutch set:

1. There is an advertising intro that cannot be skipped that is not on the English version discs.
2. There are no English subtitles (my partner is German and although fluent in English finds some accents and mumbled dialogue difficult. There are only Dutch subtitles.
3. The last two of the six episodes ("One Angry Man" and "Heart of darkness") are not on this set any more than they are on the English set due to the draconian policy of the BBC that treats us as if we were children. Unfortunately, putting aside all the mistaken rubbish on MMR behind this decision by the BBC these two episodes are well worth seeing, particularly the fascinating deliberations of the jury in "One Angry Man" that should havbe won the writer an award rather than a ban. Whichever set you buy I strongly recommend you hunt around for uploads of these last two episodes or find a friend who has recorded them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Judge John Deed Series 5 1 Oct 2009
Format:DVD
Was very pleased to be able to obtain both Series 5 and series 6 which would finish the series nicely except they were in a format 2 which was not available here in Australia but was able to get around the problem by going through a computer. One of the better series coming from the UK and well thought out. When you see a couple of episodes it makes you want more and more and although Australia only showed some of the series it was enough for interested viewers to seek more copies anywhere they could get them. Deed protrays a person that champions all causes relating to good and not corruption, which appears to be the norm these days. He crosses the lines occasionally but always for the good. Well recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars It is Series 5 28 July 2009
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I have bought this and it IS series 5 is in English and can be played on UK equipment. If Stephen Lunny's informtion is correct it may be the only way to obtain (most of) series 5 so whilst a little more expensive than usual DVD's I consider it worth it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Judge John Deed Series 5 5 Mar 2010
Format:DVD
I was most disappointed to find that episodes 5 and 6 were not part of the set of DVD's labeled series 5. It looks to be false advertising or misrepresentation.
