The good old days 7 Jan 2001

Despite what it says on Amazon, Ezquerra has nothing to do with this book. Bolland, Gibbons, McMahon are the heavyweights and this story introduces an artist known as Ron Smith. Now onto the story.

Fresh home from crossing the Cursed Earth (Dredd's first epic back in the 70s), he arrives back to find himself on a murder charge. From there on, it becomes evident that there is a corruption within Justice Dept. And. One thing leads to another...

This kind of story blows the hell out of some of the more recent ones. It's action adventure and Dredd really begins to mature into the guy we know today. Plenty of twists and turns in the plot. For anyone reading Dredd today, this is a fantastic look back at one of the major developments in his history. Recently "the Cal files" in 2000AD resurrected elements from this story, and the legacy of Fergie was brought up again in that awful movie of 1995. As far as Dredd goes, this is an important story.

What can i say? reading this book was fantastic, bringing back memories of when i read it in the original 2000AD comic,
And the amazing way John Howard translate's the original Emperor Caligula's insanity, into a story that gives the modern Judge Cal's 'strangeness' quite an historic twist if you will, which will give the reader a truly interesting 'can't put this book down'tale.
I don't really want to give out too much info on the actual storyline as most 'Dreddists' like myself already know it.
However for all you novices out there, all i will say is
trust me on this- if this doesn't turn your curiosity of Dredd's adventures into an addiction to find more & more stories of perhaps one of the most respected AND longest running comic icons in a British publication, then Baby you're REALLY missing out on one of life's best experiences.
So please don't take my word for it, just make sure you put it on your list of 'books I MUST read before I die' list.

Judge Dredd. I love it - the gallows humour, the lawmaster, and never ending cool lines that he says like:
'Crook: Please man, I swear I haven't broken no law!'
'Dredd: I am the law - BOOM!' Five bullets pumped into the badguys head and justice served. However, this 'the day the law died' did feel like the law (Dredd) had died. The magic was lost - and you know why? Because the moment you see the front cover you think: This better be good. Go on, scroll up now and have a look for yourself - it's unstreamline, and not a very good picture.
Hence, the book is okay but not his best and not the usual 5 star quality. I stand by my 2 stars and suggest you go and get the other two dredd books they have on display which I have also reviewed.
