Biography

“In the early seventies I found myself preferring film soundtracks to most other types of records. What drew me to them was their sensuality and unfinished-ness - in the absence of the film they invited you, the listener, to complete them in your mind. If you hadn't even seen the film, the music remained evocative - like the lingering perfume of somebody who's just left a room you've entered. I… Read more in Amazon's Brian Eno Store

4.0 out of 5 stars Jubilee Soundtrack - Derek Jarman 1977, 28 May 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Jubilee [Us Import] (Audio CD)
The film "Jubilee", a classic soundtrack form the punk era. Directed by Derek Jarman in 1977, with contributions from Adam and the Ants with Toyah Willcox (singing "Nine to Five") and other tracks from Suzi Pinns and a couple of great tracks from Brian Eno. If you loved the 70's punk and new wave era and have an affinity or collection for Toyah, Adam and the Ants or Brian Eno, then this is a good addition, for others it is probably too selective and not appropriate for the usual punk collectors. For me it brings back alot of great memories of the time and music of the 70's. I love it.

A wonderful diversity of sounds from cutting edge punk artists of the time, to the soothing instrumentals by Brian Eno.5 different artists, 2 songs each, ocntrasting yet complimentary as a whole to the soundtrack of this fantastic film.Just listen to the music in conjunction with the lyrics on Plastic surgery, a timeless experience!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly warped., 17 Feb 2000
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Jubilee (Audio CD)
I haven't heard this album in what, 20 years? From Adam Ant to Jayne/Wayne County to Eno, this was one of the most twisted, fun compilations of its time. Unfortunately, it doesn't hold up completely. I can't change the number of stars, but I will say that Adam Ant's Deutcher Girls and Plastic Surgery are the highlights. Some of the other cuts are not worth spinning in the 21st Century, but make interesting artifacts of a bygone era.

5.0 out of 5 stars delicious, 23 Sep 2000
By Sean M. Kelly - Published on Amazon.com

Certainly a product of its times, any lp that mixes in Eno with Adam and the Ants can't be all bad, right?

A warped film has to have its equally warped soundtrack, and this one takes the cake.
