5.0 out of 5 stars At their best 5 Feb 2002
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
One would be forgiven for thinking that a group which peaked ten years ago probably isn't all that good. However, when the peak is Joyride, it can easily be understood that it was a hard act to follow. While later efforts have proved almost as successful (especially 1994's Crash! Boom! Bang! and 2001's Room Service), nothing has yet managed to beat the thrashing guitars and catchy tunes of Joyride (1991). The singles are great, of course - Joyride, Fading Like A Flower (Every Time You Leave), (Do You Get) Excited? - but it is the other tracks which really carry this classy album: Keep On Knockin' On Every Door is as compelling as they come, with Perfect Day, the album's closing track, taking your breath away as Marie reaches every note pitch perfect - no mean feat given that this song ranges across three full octaves! This is, quite simply, a masterpiece, and nothing has yet come along to beat it, whether from Roxette or any other group. If you want the early 90s in a nutshell, look no further than Roxette's Joyride.

5.0 out of 5 stars Join the Joyride! 12 Mar 2001
Format:Audio CD
This was the first CD that i ever bought back in 1991! I thought it was great then and i still think that it's a terrific album. What a start! One of the finest pop/rock singles of the 90's the superb "Joyride" followed up by the frenetic" Hotblooded" a pacy Roxette track that so easily could have been a single as well. The next three tracks are all Roxette classics "Fading like a flower","Knockin on every door" and the powerful ballad "Spending my time" To be honest the album does'nt fail on any level,it's all here, great melodies, catchy hooks and Marie's voice, what a combination! Just when you think the album can't soar to new heights it does, the last two tracks are excellent!"Things will never be the same" and "Perfect Day" the former a magnificent slow burning anthem and the latter a beautiful melody, beautifully sung.If you want to join the joyride here's the place to jump on!Five stars

5.0 out of 5 stars Do You Get Excited? 2 Nov 2013
Format:Audio CD
Hats off to the Scandinavians and their ability to pen great tunes (Abba, A-Ha, Ace of Base, Bel Canto, Robyn, The Cardigans, Royksopp, Leaves). However, Roxette take some beating and this is their masterpiece. And what a voice Marie Fredriksson has. If you are a lover of great pop music, you really shouldn't be without this release.

If you are a Roxette fan,you must absolutely have "jOYRIDE" album...This album's style is pop rock but harder than their other albums...It's even some influenced hard rock album...I think "Joyride" is the best album untill 1991...It's really like best of album...All songs are great...My favourites are especially "Fading like a flower","I remember you","Things will never be the same" and of course "Spending My Time"...Also there are 3 bonus tracks in new 2009 remastered edition...Especially "The Sweet Hello,The Sad Goodbye" is perfect as bonus track...I highly recommend to this album for all Roxette fans...

This was the first tape I had ever brought and I loved Roxette ever since. The CD covers all types of music from the powerful 'Spendig my time' to the fast hard hitting 'Excited'. A wonderful CD catching the best of Roxette at that time. A classic CD.

4.0 out of 5 stars Joy's a Ride! 29 Mar 2010
Format:Audio CD
Roxette's greatest album (apart from their hits collection) is this joyful spinner of a record, and no mean feat for such an 'old-fashioned' sound of late 70s US rock married to some poignant piano playing and one of the best female voices you'll ever hear.

Taking them song by song, the exuberant title-track is a open-air breezer of a rocker. Gessel's scratchy voice is not to all tastes, but on songs like this, 'The Look' and the bouncy 'The Big L' (also on this CD) works perfectly. There are 15 tracks on this album, and it's a good thing, cos two are sadly outright duds. Both of them are over-flashy, trashy and tuneless attempts at rock-the thankless Pat Benatar-lite dirge of 'Hotblooded' and the stifling, overwrought and wrong-footed approach of 'Soul Deep'-an unlikeable yellathon that smacks of too many late 70s rock groups. The willowy 'Church Of Your Heart' is above these two mistakes, but still suffers from a deficient chorus that acts as a total dampner after a pleasant enough verse.

But that still leaves 12 jewels, and the full-bodied fulfilment of 'Fading Like A Flower (Every Time You Leave)' takes its place among their very best songs and is a total winner. Also here is another swaying power-ballad-the powerful 'Spending My Time'-once again, an almost dangerous Heart/Atlantic Star/Foreigner approach that completely beats the hell out of all the US acts it apes-especially the embarrassing Starship and overrated one-trick Heart. Beautiful and heart-tugging. No less affecting, though, are the more temperate ballads Marie sings-'Watercolours In The Rain' and the closing 'Perfect Day'-fine tender tracks in their own right.

Apart from 'Joyride' and 'Big L', Per's 'Knockin'On Every Door' and 'Physical Fascination' are charming groovers also, if less showy.

5.0 out of 5 stars This brilliant album.
This brilliant album I replaced for a new one. It sounds pretty cool. I'm happy with the old drive sounded too pale, that sounds real, as if the musicians play in the room.
