As one would expect from the title of this book, it does not shy away from the original Christmas message, but gives it a fresh twist by drawing on lesser known traditions from around the world. Appropriately for this most universal of festivals, the text is accessible and inclusive.

When I ordered this book, I was hoping for a collection of stories celebrating the many ways in which Christmas and the Mid Winter festivals are enjoyed throughout the world. Although the stories are all from around the world, they all feel very modernised and westernised, with a heavy focus on the religious aspects, and less on the traditions of the places these stories come from. Unfortunately I felt this left some of the tales feeling a little clinical clean. Must admit was disappointed with the end result - as this had potential of being a much more interesting and engaging set of tales.
