Really good recipe ideas, 15 Aug 2002
This review is from: The Joy of Vegan Cookery: Fresh and Exciting Recipes for a Healthy Lifestyle (Paperback)
Anyone who is vegan will be familiar with the difficulties of finding a healthy balanced diet - and of eating a varied and tasty range of meals. Unfortunately the answer to this problem is often to cook for oneself, since few restaurants provide a wide range of vegan foods.
Thus one cannot but welcome a new vegan cookbook - and one that enthuses so much about the health and environmental advantages of belonging to this minority group - who knows, you might decide to become a vegan after reading Amanda Grant's book!
In addition to the classic risotto, pasta and homemade pizza dishes, the recipes in this book include such imaginative inventions as Chocolate Raspberry Hazelnut Cake, African Curry, Frozen Yoghurt Crunch, Vegan Sushi with Avocado and Cucumber... although these titles sound rather elaborate, not one of them takes more than 20 min to prepare. In the book as a whole, the longest preparation time is half an hour (excluding cooking, plus the odd marinating or chilling). About half the recipes only take a quarter of an hour.
There's also a handy introduction discussing various vitamins, minerals, protein etc; and describing essential ingredients to keep in the storecupboard and freezer. There is a wonderful selection of 'menus' for various kinds of occasion, with practical tips to help you through preparing for special occasions.
In short - an wonderful new vegan book, a good place to start or an exciting new addition to your cookery shelf.

this book is great for people who love fresh, tasty mediterranean/ asian inspired food. all recipes are simple, and not too much reliance on hard to obtain ingredients.

I love this book!, 17 July 2003

I have done about 15 of the recipes in this book so far, and would happily do ALL of them, they all sound so good...they are easy to do, imaginative, colourful, and not too 'foody'...today I am making the corn, coconut, lime and coriander soup....get this book and I promise you won't be disappointed!
