Two thirds of this film are superb - it being a recreation of the expulsion of the Germans from Silesia and other east German parts, as the Russians pushed deeper into Germany, 1945. It has a feeling of authenticity and all the weapons, etc, are as they should be. However...for some reason a love interest is inserted and the modern (60s scenes) are horrendous and ruin the chilling atmosphere that has built up to that point. Still, I would advise people to buy it just for the lengthy flashback scenes, as these are the bulk of the movie. The Soviet abuse of German women, although now accepted as historical fact, also appears on this DVD - a timely reminder of the atrocities that men in victorious armies commit.
