Debut solo album on Island Records from the British jazz legend, a Top 40 hit in 1986 which was later certified Silver.
One of the many highlights was a lengthy
reinterpretation of Real Thing s Children Of The
Ghetto , also issued as a single.
The album boasted fellow members of the Jazz
Warriors, such as Gary Crosby (bass) and Cleveland
Watkiss (vocals).
Courtney has since been awarded an MBE and is now
a presenter and broadcaster, not least with his longrunning
radio show for BBC Radio 2, Jazz Crusade.

Deep inside the ghetto there's a unity,

This review is from: Journey to the [VINYL] (Vinyl)
Released in 1986 this LP contains the spiritually uplifting track Children of the Ghetto featuring Susaye Greene on vocals accompanied with Courtney on soprano sax. Together her voice and his tone on the sax are so close they are almost indistinguishable as they blend together in perfect pitch.

Susaye Greene is the outstanding gem on this one!,

I quite enjoyed this CD. Mr. Pine's interpretations of jazz flavours and styles are impressive. HOWEVER, I bought this disc for one track only --- for "Children Of The Ghetto" performed by Miss Susaye Greene. For those who are unware, Miss Greene was the last original Supreme in the late 1970s. Currently, Miss Greene has a CD out entitled "No Fear Here" which, if one can imagine showcases even MORE vocal power than in this fabulous jazz performance included on this Pine CD.
