Andrew Lockington is a relative newcomer in the world of film scores, but based on this album he will be a name to watch out for in the future. This score is a good old fashioned orchestral and choral romp from start to finish. Lockington seems to have his own unique style, and in this score he does not rely on any electronics or synth enhancements which certainly gives it a much more organic and rich sound.
It has a running time of 67 minutes which is fairly generous for a score release. As for the music itself, the "Journey" theme introduced in track 1 is rather good, and it is relied on heavily over the course of the album. I thought the album was particularly strong in the middle section, with the tracks "The Centre of the Earth" through to "Storm" containing the strongest material. I particularly liked the orchestral and choral arrangements in these tracks.
Whilst nothing about the score is particularly groundbreaking, the orchestrations are absolutely superb and some of the action is very strong for a relative newcomer. I hope to hear more from this very promising composer in the future.
