Journey to L.A. is the 8th studio album by "AOR", the project of melodic rock songwriter/guitarist Frederic Slama, originally released in 2009. Much like the previous "AOR" albums, "Journey to LA" could be regarded as an all-star project. Still it is easy to outline the key contributors of the project being guitarist Tommy Denander, providing the majority of lead guitars, singer Philip Bardowell who sings on seven out of a total of twelve songs and of course Salma who performs guitars and keyboards.
From there onwards guest appearances are made by Steve Overland, Fergie Frederiksen, Dane Donohue, Bill Champlin each contributing lead vocals to a song. In similar fashion, "Journey to LA' includes guesting guitarists Steve Lukather, David Williams and Eric Barkdull.
It has to be said that the more one moves along the track-list, the more rocking "Journey to LA" becomes. The first few songs are mainly bluesy-westcoast AOR but sure enough tracks that follow lack nothing of the attack and performance intensity long-term fans expect from a melodic rock/AOR album. Favorite tracks include "Desperate dreams", "Never Surrender", "The view of you" and "Heartless". Indeed, from track four and onwards it is all guitar-keyboard driven American melodic rock referencing directly such bands as "Toto", "Journey" and "Work of Art". If you are a fan of any of the artists or bands mentioned above you should try "AOR-Journey to LA" it is an all star project that sounds incredibly cohesive and evidently professional.
