4.0 out of 5 stars the start of a classic series of westerns 21 Aug 2009
Cimarron Strip aired on CBS in the USA from September 1967 to March 1968. Its star was Stuart Whitman who played the role of Marshal Jim Crown. (The series was produced by the same people who produced Gunsmoke).

The format was for a series of approx 90 minute westerns (including adverts), and was very similar to The Virginian in its style.

Set in Oklahoma, but used many locations for external shooting eg Alabama, Utah and Tuscon.

This is the very first episode (of only 23 ever made, the series was cancelled after just one season). Its theme music was composed by Maurice Jarre.

The stories being longer than the usual 30 minutes or so, gives time for more character development. The film quality has aged somewhat, however these are good stories and are examples of 1960s westerns done well.

This is a forgotten treasure , A series from the late 1960's of 23 individual films starring Stuart Whitman, A Fantastic series that was tougher than than Bonanza series and had far less female orientated storylines. an excellent series

1.0 out of 5 stars Dreadful - don't waste your money 6 May 2010
Firstly I love Westerns. I bought this based on the review. It is an extremely poor film. The quality of the colour is fudged and images leak colour into each other. The acting is wooden and the production values look like it was filmed by a first year film school student using his own resources. The dialogue is awful and the editing and composition of the shots clearly shows the budget limitations. Don't buy it there are plenty of other Westerns. Try the Tom Selleck ones amongst others or any of the Lonesome Dove films. There is a Lonesome Dove TV series which is excellent particularly 'The Outlaw Years' woth Scott Bairstow.
