Buryat Folklore 8 Dec. 2008
By Benjamin Trovato - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
After publishing his History of the Mongols, in 1900 Curtin travelled to the west side of Lake Baikal in the hope of learning what had survived of midieval Mongol culture. The ethnography is rather thin, with emphasis on folk tales. There are some interesting pictures of Siberian daily life. The manuscript was completed a few months before his death, which may account for some of the weaknesses. The text was digitized by something called sacred-texts.com. The pictures do not download and there may be missing pages or some other form of disorganization.

A Journey in Southern Siberia 4 Nov. 2010
By klark - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
Interesting reading about the early Mongols in Siberia during a critical time in history. Includes folk tales and accounts of daily living that are not found elsewhere. Highly recommended for scholars studying this area or anyone with an interest in this culture.
Unique perspective 28 Jan. 2014
By Jeffrey S. Schweitzer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
My wife was born in the place described in this book, about 70 years later. We recognized many of the places described. So much has changed, and so much is hauntingly familiar. It's a fascinating read from an era before political correctness muzzled opinion: right or wrong, Curtin says what he thinks.
