At first glance, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is a sequel with not much going for it. A follow-up to the Brendan Fraser-starring Journey To The Center of the Earth, it has precious few of the original ingredients in place, and it's also hampered by the fact that it's in 3D isn't the novelty it was first time around. When the first film came around, after all, Avatar was still some way away from release.
However, count Journey 2: The Mysterious Island as a really fun surprise. The 3D still works, and the glistening Blu-ray transfer does the bright picture real justice. But it's the delivering of an action adventure that all the family can genuinely get something out of that's perhaps the real achievement here. The casting of The Rock, or Dwayne Johnson if you prefer, is the first of many smart moves here. Michael Caine is on board too, along with Vanessa Hudgens and Josh Hutcherson. And it's a broad company who have a lot of fun with the material.
It's loosely based around the work of Jules Verne but generally, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is mainly an excuse for special effects, action, humour, and The Rock popping his pecs. You'll fully understand once you've seen the film. It's a fun piece of matinee cinema, and a comfortable improvement on the first movie. --Jon Foster

The new family adventure Journey 2: The Mysterious Island begins when seventeen-year-old Sean Anderson (Josh Hutcherson) receives a coded distress signal from a mysterious island where no island should exist.
Unable to stop him from tracking the signal to its source, Sean's new stepfather, Hank (Dwayne Johnson), joins the quest that will take them first to the South Pacific, and then to a place few people have ever seen. Or lived to tell about. It's a place of stunning beauty, strange and threatening life forms, volcanoes, mountains of gold and more than one astonishing secret.
Together with Gabato (Luis Guzmán), the only helicopter pilot willing to risk the trip, and Gabato's beautiful, strong-willed daughter Kailani (Vanessa Hudgens), they set out to find the island, rescue its lone human inhabitant and escape before seismic shockwaves force the island underwater and bury its treasures forever, in this follow-up to the 2008 worldwide hit Journey to the Center of the Earth.

I have to say it is one of the best 3D movies I have watched so far especially for the effects. very good depth also the bits that jump out of the screen can make you shift side ways (dont tell the wife though, I felt her move quick).
The film itself is easy watching and plenty going on throughout, I didnt think I would ejoy it as much as I did however the effects made that happen. worth buying for 3D viewing. I have given a four as only Avatar will get a five as this time.

If you enjoyed the new Journey To The Centre Of The Earth film then you will love this fun family adventure film too!

Dwayne Johnson who is also known as The Rock has really good timing as a comic actor and when he had these red berries bouncing off his pecs chest muscles this had many people laughing in the cinema audience. The Mysterious Island has elephants small like domestic cats and ants as big as polo bears. Michael Caine is great as the wacky old grandpa and he is the reason why they are all stranded on this Mysterious Island because of his coded message which is grandson recorded. As they travel across the Island they come across a mega large green lizard which is enough to give any lizard hater nightmares and when riding these large bumble bees a even bigger bird drops it's number two all over one of our unlikely heros!
They must find a way off the island before the volcano erupts and causes the island to sink beneath the sea. My six year old daughter, partner and myself really enjoyed this fast paced fun adventure film which I will be buying when it's comes out on blu-ray.

This film only works if you can switch off for a couple of hours and just concentrate on the stunning CGG and 3D effects.It does not have a great story line but the island scenes totally make up for it.You will find that you have to duck a couple of times to avoid being hit by objects flying out of your TV.A good humerous enjoyable family film.

Good fun
