This is the third and final part of the Sovereign Stone story. Here we pick up immediately from the end of the second book in the series, Guardians of the Lost. Shadamehr has been badly wounded after he and Jessan escape from the palace in New Vinnangael. Bashae and the Grandmother are wandering alone in the city, and there are dangers beyond their imagining closing in on them. Dagnarus is pulling together his plans for total domination, and will let nothing and no-one stand in his way. And what has happened to Raven and Wolfram? The Vrykyl are shadowing their prey, and who knows what the Elves, Dwarves and other Human kingdoms will do when chaos falls upon them?
This is the culmination of this very exciting, well planned and plotted trilogy, and brings together a multitude of threads in the story to a highly-paced conclusion. The tale comes back in a long circle to end where it began - the city of Old Vinnangael, where all that was wrong will, by the will of the Vinnangaelean gods, be put right. But what that means for all those whose tales we have followed is something you need to read to the end of the book to find out.
Great stuff; rollicking adventure, full of magic, elves, orken, dwarves, taan, the Void, magi, warriors and fair and foul creatures. Highly recommended, as is the whole trilogy.
