The clever thing with these bowls and the rest is the range is that they fit neatly into each other and take up minimal space, whilst looking good. The largest bowl is 1.65litre and the smaller bowl has just over a half litre capacity and a pouring spout.
What makes these bowls a bit better than any old bowl is the the clever little touches. The larger bowl has a sturdy rubber ring on the bottom which makes it ideal for using for whisking as it sticks well onto the worktop - I find it's great for eggs, and also just the right size for a child to make fairy cakes in, a frequent event in our house! The smaller bowl has a scale up the inside in increments of 50ml - this is incredibly useful for measuring, and it pours well too. I can't say I use the juicer particularly often, in fact I didn't have a lemon squeezer before and owning one makes me feel very well grown up! I have used it to squeeze lemons for my favourite lemon pudding recipe, but I can't say the urge to squeeze copious amounts of oranges has struck, but I am sure it would be up to this task. Again, for a simple item it has clever touches - the inner rim retains pips, and the whole thing can be used by itself - again it has rubber feet to make using it on the counter easy, or you can turn it right side up and it will fit onto the top of the smaller bowl, ready to pour the juice into it.
It's good to have handles on the side of the bowls, which are made of tough, hard, plastic. The bowls are dishwasher safe; I've washed them on the top shelf with no problems and overall this does feel like a well made, quality item. I have found that the bowl has scratched a little over time from my whisking and my daughter's enthusiastic cake mixing no doubt, and taken on a slight patina inside, but not to the extent that I would be worried about food getting stuck to it and you can only really tell if you look carefully. One issue I do have with these bowls is that they are not microwave safe, presumably due to the type of plastic that they are made with, which is a little bit of a pity, but in all honesty they look so good and are such a pleasure to cook with that I can forgive them this slight issue!
As you can probably tell I really like this item from Joseph Joseph, which was a gift, and would be very tempted to buy more from the range, they are fairly pricey but I do find that in the kitchen having well made and designed items makes all the difference.
