I have been sharing this book with my 4 year old and his baby sister, who is 1. It is a lovely book to read aloud, although it is true to say it can be a bit wordy, and may be something to read in two sittings if your children are not as bookish as mine. The pictures are lovely and evocative, and if you or your little ones like cats and don't find animals "writing" a bit twee then you will love the way the book works. It is mainly about Pope Benedict's childhood and comes to a halt pretty quickly as soon as he goes to the Vatican, so it doesn't have much on his later life at all, but that is probably right for this age group. It is written with so much love for His Holiness and the Church, and that is the most important thing for our family. I'm sure any Catholic family could find a space on their shelves for this super picture book.

I got this book after my sister saw the Italian version in the Vatican and read it myself, even though I don't have children. I think that the pictures are lovely but it sounds like a nice story too. Since children hear cats "talking" in films and cartoons (Garfield??) maybe they would see this story is just another example of a cat letting people know how they see things.
