Product Description

Joseph Bentley Stainless Steel Long Handled Bulb Planter

Keep the knee pads in the cupboard, and give your back a break, thanks to the Long Handled Bulb Planter from Joseph Bentley. Part of the Stainless Steel collection of essential garden tools, the planter’s stainless steel head features tread edged wings, letting it slice cleanly through the ground and remove a plug of soil. Once your bulb has been planted, simply release the plug back over the hole and move on to your next planting spot. The planter’s 7cm diameter allows ample room for all sizes of bulbs, and features a 4” depth guide for those plants that require a little more attention in planting. Easy to use in even the toughest of soils, this hardy planter is backed up by that defining heritage charm of the Joseph Bentley range.

Joseph Bentley – Traditional Garden Tools

First established in the late 1800s, Joseph Bentley has been giving British gardeners the tools to grow for well over a century. Today, Joseph Bentley provides exceptional tools for discerning gardeners, in a collection of traditional stainless steel spades, forks and planters.

Bending and breaking a cheap tubular steel planter (blue label begins with 'D') after only putting in three bulbs infuriated me so I looked for something more substantial and found this excellent piece of kit. It's twice the price of the crappy one but so much better value for money. It's much more robust with its sturdy wood handle and solid stainless steel planting head. Over 300 bulbs, a myriad of small shrubs and numerous seed potatoes later it's paid for itself in saving time and wear on my back. I thoroughly recommend it. Oh and it was delivered within four days too, which is good considering I'm as far north as you can get on the UK mainland.

I've planted about 500 daffodil bulbs with this planter with no problems (apart from it being a really tedious task).

Don't buy the short handled version from the same manufacturer, Joseph Bentley! I started off with one and had to throw it away after maybe 50 bulbs because it buckled and twisted, even though I've got quite friable soil. You really need to be able to push the tool into the ground with your foot. Using your hands make them sore.

Very sturdy. Made cutting the holes so easy. Looks like it will last. Bulb planting has been made so much easier and I think I'll be using it to plant my potatoes too.

Very pleased with the product. I planted some 200 bulbs with relative ease. While there was some occasional difficulty with buried flint, the planter did not bend, or become damaged. If it lasts the course (it has a "lifetime" guarantee), then I would upgrade to a 5 star rating.

This is a marvellous gardening tool for planting bulbs. The only thing I have seen like it is used on golf courses for moving holes on the putting greens. When your knees no longer bend, this is the way to plant.
