Another impressive Vintersorg album

Jordpuls is the seventh full-length album from Swedish folk/progressive/not really but kinda sorta black metal band Vintersorg. The Borknagar vocalist has an impressive solo career, and as usual he handles just about every aspect of this album from songwriting through production.
Like 2007's Solens Rotter, Jordpuls is a complex album, progressive in the best sense of the word. There is a lot of similarity between this album and Borknagar's latest (Universal), but Jordpuls is definitely a Vintersorg creation. The fusion of progressive metal, folk metal and to some extent black metal is something Vintersorg does like no one else. The vocals, which range from clean to black metal style are once again sung entirely in Swedish, so you can't really tell what the album is about, but given previous Vintersorg albums it's a safe bet nature and the cosmos are focal points. There's a good use of symphonic and folk elements (programmed, apparently), and the album as a whole seems more cohesive and just impressive in general than the last one.
If you're already a Vintersorg/Borknagar fan, you know what this guy is capable of, and Jordpuls is about as good a solo album as we've seen from him in a long time. If you're a fan of bands ranging from Dimmu Borgir to Tyr to Eluveite to Voyager, you definitely need to experience Vintersorg, and this is a great place to start (though if you need English lyrics you should start with Cosmic Genesis).
