Outdated,

Having just returned from Jordan this guide proved quite useful. It outlines all the main details of tourist attractions, hotels, restaurants etc. However it is very outdated. Since 2000 when it was written Jordan has developed alot. For example in Petra and Aqaba there are many new places to stay and eat and some of the ones recommended did not even exist anymore! Therefore it was not of much use for attaining information on those aspects.The maps of sites and detailed descriptions of momuments and how to get to them in Petra and Wadi Rum were very good and these are the books strengths. It is worth buying for those especially if exploring without a guide. The rest you'll have to work out when you arrive by yourselves!!

Good Guide Book...but...,

Much more informative than LP's "Jordan & Syria" edition. There are a couple of beautiful pictures of Wadi Rum in here, and some decent background info on archeological sites around Jordan. Border crossing politics are made clear, and how to get around is succint. There is quite a bit of information packed into this book, covering everything from little-known facts about Bedouin life to opening/closing times at Karak Castle. The maps in this book are more useful than some other guides I've seen and I would have given this book 5 stars, but I know of another book superior to this one.... It's Matthew Teller's "Jordan-The Rough Guide"....

This was a much older version of the book.
The historic explanations and site instructions are indeed helpful. However, the info on telephone numbers, accommodation is quite outdated. Good value for money if you are looking for info on sites but not if you are using it as the only guide to Jordan in terms of PRACTICAL info. |
