Some great music (and artists) we've been missing over here!,

This review is from: Jools Holland And Friends - Small World Big Band (Audio CD)
I found this CD in Kingston, Ontario back in December and bought it solely for "Horse to the Water". I had no idea who Jools was (I was a fan of Squeeze during the years when he had left the band), and I certainly hadn't heard of Sam Brown or Suggs. What a treasure chest of great songs and performances!Because of George's passing and the demand for "Horse..." to be released in this country, this CD finally came out here in early January, instead of the original March release date. We've been missing something over here! "Valentine Moon" by Sam Brown (and Jools) is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard, the Stereophonics' "Revolution" is great, and Suggs' "Oranges and Lemons Again" is infectious. What talented artists! The cuts featuring more familiar acts like Sting and Dr. John are excellent, as one would expect. Like any great CD containing cuts by various artists, this one makes you want to buy lots more. (I've already bought four more Jools CD's from amazon.uk, and I plan to buy "Stop" by Sam Brown among many others.) Jools' piano skills are amazing, and the big band sound adds a new dimension to all these great tracks. I'll recommend it over here to anyone who'll listen!

Spectacular Sounds,

Just browsing and listening to newly released compilation albums in a store and bought this album on the basis of hearing the first track 7th Son with Sting. I had never before heard of Jools Holland as I live in Aust, but was pleasantly surprised at how familiar some songs sounded to me although I had never heard them before. Needless to say it has become my absolute favourite album. Paul Weller and Style Council were a great band so a bit of an influence for me to buy, had never heard of Suggs but "oranges and lemons" is such a fun song - reminds me of a mix of Ian Dury/Madness. Also "Valentine Moon" is such a simply beautiful tune. I could not pin one song as my favourite as they all are so good, although "All that you are" for me resonates the emotions I feel for my mother and tugs at my heart every time I hear it.

Smooth, slick songs, excellent danceability!,

Each track recorded with polish and evident joy. Jools' piano is silky and mesmerising, and the peers he brings together are the upper echelon of talent and enthusiasm.Timeless.
