Product Description

Jonathan and Maddy – what a lovely couple they make. Or is it just an illusion? Just when the lateral-thinking crime-busters seem to be capturing each other’s hearts as well as criminals, a new foil to Jonathan’s sharp mind appears in the form of showbiz agent Carla Borrego.

'Black Canary'

The famous female illusionist, Marella Carney - The Black Canary - is found dead in her rambling mansion. For Jonathan, an encounter with both an old flame and the swashbuckling Detective Inspector Gideon Pryke (Rik Mayall) adds even more spice to an already baffling enigma.

'Satan's Chimney'

When an actress is murdered on the set of her latest movie, Jonathan is called upon to explain how the killer managed to fire a gun through a plate glass window without breaking it. The funeral, held at the ancient Doomdorf Castle in Scotland presents more mysteries and Jonathan, without Maddy, has only a pushy showbiz agent (Julia Sawalha) to trust.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spot on delivery 4 Feb 2009

Although already seen on television these specials are good enough to stand multiple watchings; well written, well plotted, well acted, they show what heights good popular entertainment can reach. With the added bonus that they appeal to all ages, highly recommended.

A fabulous item, well worth watching. Very good example of locked room murder genre a la Israel Zangwill. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars A J C NON CHRISTMAS SPECIAL! 3 Oct 2011
No Christmas but still good shows,Black Canary was taken from the second series set of shows and is very good, the Black Canary was found dead out in the snow and lots of twists and turns in this story,Maddy is here too and she has her moments, well worth your time. The second story is from the fourth season and has a new partner for J C,Carla Borrego a show biz agent who is not as good as Caroline Quentin who played Maddy but the story Satan's Chimney is a good start for the duo to bad the other stories from season 4 not on this disc are up to par,but you will enjoy this disc if you are a fan and try it out if your not,you might just become one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Creek never fails 1 Sep 2011
The Creek Christmas Specials, which I don't recall seeing on American TV, were just another reminder of how wonderful this series was. Okay, so the relationship between Jonathan & his 'side-kick' was a bit formulaic, but, even so, still delightfully amusing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Special, maybe; Christmas, no! 22 Aug 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
BE WARNED! There is not so much as a mention of Christmas in either of these "Christmas specials." They were originally broadcast on or around Christmas, but are not set during the festive season and have absolutely no Christmas content. Perhaps this is less surprising to British audiences, but to us Yanks calling programmes like these "Christmas specials" is quite misleading.
