I was never considered a rebellious kid. The last of a line of 4 children of Doug and Fran Minnick, I was able to get away with all the usual 'baby of the family' trickery, aka Everything. Really, I got away with it all because I was more observant than my brother and sisters, and learned faster than they did what drove Mom and Dad to distraction. I either didn't do those things, or I did them in such a way as the older sibs got the blame or the parents just didn't find out about it. I snuck out of the house with my older brother and climbed trees down by the run in the middle of the night with a bottle of Jim Beam to go around at the age of not saying. We ran around the neighbor's front field shooting bottle rockets at each other in a mock battle of epic proportions. On THAT one, we got caught. The bottle rockets made too much noise. There was some serious yelling over it, but not for me. I just got sent to bed.
I tried all the usual antics to publish my series about teenage boys who have some similarities to my brother and his friends and got all the usual rejections. I set out as an Indie last June, 2011, and hit the publish button on Chosen, the first of the Guardians of the Word epic fantasy series. So far, it's been a decision I'd make over and over again, just like I'd crawl out my window overlooking the back porch, shimmy down the drain pipe and take off into the night...oh wait, now I can take the stairs.
I'm a writer, a mother and manager of chaos. I try to do too many things at once, like so many of us, but it all usually works out. I love writing. It's what I'm passionate about and what I want to do above all other things.
