Absolutely superb - Joking Apart is simply the funniest TV comedy of all time. It's unbelievable that the BBC don't repeat it.

A good early "Grand Moff" comedy. Well worth a look, even if it appears slightly dated with its 80's look and feel as well as the square screen aspect, reminding us that TV's were once very square!!. It serves as a precursor to the superior "Coupling" which hones the "relationship" theme explored in this comedy. As I understand it, both series were reflections of Steven Moffats life at the time, so were obvious themes for the fledging writer to explore. Some good laugh out loud moments and larger than life characters. Enjoy!!

Joking Apart was the illustrious Steven Moffat's first attempt at a sitcom and still remains his best. It's nowhere near as well known as his subsequent hit series Coupling, which is a shame because fans of the latter would almost certainly fall in love with Joking Apart. There are definite parallels - Moffat constantly strives for most toe-curlingly embarrassing plights to put the characters in and with Robert and Tracey, he has created a truly barking mad couple... And they're not even the main stars!

This second series is more outrageous than the first and brings the supporting cast into the very heart of the action. The episode about porn which kicks off series two is as sublime a piece of comedy writing as I've ever had the joy to watch. It literally had the tears running down my face! It was entered into the Golden Rose of Montreux festival and waltzed off with an award. That makes it all the more baffling that this BBC never championed this show, possibly because they were putting all their weight behind Absolutely Fabulous at that time (a series that while good, never won a Montreux prize). However, the fans have always had good reason to remember the show so it's a thrill to be able to enjoy it once again on DVD.

The DVD comes with commentaries on every episode which feature Moffat, the entire main cast and lengendary comedy director Bob Spiers, all of whom are clearly having a ball. For good measure, there is also the original pilot episode and an entertaining and enlightening booklet about the show.

Definitely a treat for all comedy enthusiasts.
