Product Description

Product Description
For nearly fifty years, he's terrorised Gotham and the world, crippled Batgirl and killed the second Robin. He is Batman's greatest nemesis. His name is the Joker...and these are some of the finest stories ever to star the Clown Prince of Crime! Follow the Joker's evolution from the malevolent mischief-maker of his earliest appearances to the savage, almost unstoppable force of madness and evil he has become. You've never seen a clown this terrifying! Written by a host of talents from Batman co-creators Bill Finger and Bob Kane to red-hot modern fan-favourites Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee (Batman: Hush), with many more in between, these are great stories about a very, very bad guy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Stop Me If You've Heard This One..., 4 Aug 2008
Imagine it; you're a Joker fan, you've been searching forever for the definitive collection of great Joker stories, and suddenly it seems that such a volume is handed to you on a silver platter. Well, I had a pretty close experience. I saw this book and just had to have it!

This volume is a collection of some of the best Joker stories of the last few decades rolled up in one big book, from the very first comic caper to the newer, more insane story arcs.

The stories within are Batman Versus The Joker, the very first fun little adventure in which the psychotic Clown Prince of Crime appears and wreaks utter havoc.

The second (and possibly best known) story is The Joker's Comedy of Capers (yes, THAT one), in which the theme is... er... in modern contexts, rather questionable.

And of course the rest follow on in the vein of spectacular amusement, amazement and wonder in the form of master trickery, complete insanity and downright evil in such stories as Joker's Utility Belt (a fun caper about the villain's desire to have one-up on the Batbrat with his very own belt of tricks), Joker's Last Laugh (not to be confused with the 2008 volume of the same name) and Laughter After Midnight (which sees The Joker in his most cartoonish form, killing as many people as he wants and having fun with it). It is the absolute in Joker collections, and the varying artwork and characterisations is just like being an insane clown in the Batcave; so much wonder, so much choice! Oh I can't decide, let's just blow it all up!

Okay, so that was lame of me, but that is what this collection will do to you. Hey, I'd suggest this for anyone who's even heard of the Joker. I don't really like Batman personally, but The Joker has to be the best villain around in the DC Universe.

There was one story in particular I admittedly found a bit off, even for a Joker collection, and not really much to do with the Joker. That was The Joke, chapter 7 of story arc Hush, in which Batman beats the living daylights out of The Joker in an attempt to murder him. Pretty much all of this story sees the Joker lying in a crumpled, bloody mess as he allows Batman to pummel him stupid. If you're of a nervous disposition or a zealous Joker fan, this story might not be for you... However, the rest of the stories are still pretty enjoyable and you can always look back on The Joker's Comedy of Errors for a good, immature giggle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Put a smile on your face?, 29 Dec 2008
What more can you ask for?

Being a big fan of The Joker, I saw this in the now redundant Zavvi, £10.

Was looking for any book, and in the corner of my eye, this white face smiling at me, with his piercing green eyes and dark green hair, I was drawn straight to it.

'The Joker: The Greatest Stories ever told'

mmmm.. So I have a whole graphic novel dedicated to the man himself, and not just one story.

From the 'Golden Era' stories which are a tad out of date on the language to the Modern Age stories, each one unique, each one with its own emotion.

I would say this is an amazing collection of stories, and great for people who do not own the original comics or who do not want to go hunting for them.

recommend read for Joker & Batman fans alike.
