Product Description

Sunday Times

"Many bands in the past two decades have tried to fuse guitars with beats. Rarely has it sounded as right, or intense as on this record."

10/10 iDJ ALBUM OF ISSUE

"An album so sonically involved and developed you'll find it impossible not to find new sounds on every listen. In a league of their own."

5.0 out of 5 stars The most exciting band of 2009 so far!!!, 29 Mar 2009
By Mr. Sm Baker - See all my reviews

I have been searching in vain for artist similar to The Prodigy and Pendulum but with no luck, they are either too hardcore dnb or a rock band which is not the same. I stumbled across this album on amazon and its brilliant. If you, like me, have been searching for this rare genre I totally recommend you buy this album. epic. (still not as good as The Prodigy however!)

5.0 out of 5 stars What Pendulum should have been, 18 Mar 2009
By David Mckay "Electronica Dave" (Leicester, United Kingdon) - See all my reviews

This is a fantastic album.

Like the above reviewer I discovered these guys on a Ninja Tune compilation. They have a real raw guitar based energy about them, unusual to drum and bass. Stompbox the opening track is a raw, noisy track which really sends your pulses racing and the whole album continues in this vane. They have a more underground sound that Pendulum have shyed away from(in my opinion a bad decision. Drum and Bass, dance, even rock and metal fans will love this album

'When you're lonely' reminds me of 'Voodoo people' from the Prodigy so I see where the comparisons come, but in truth The Qemists are in a league of their own

4.0 out of 5 stars If you like Pendulum minus the dodgy vocalist this is for you., 9 Mar 2009
By Deopple "Cheyne Stoking" (An imperfect place) - See all my reviews
I discovered this band/group from a Ninja Tune compilation. It contained Drop Audio & a remix of Coldcuts - Atomic Moog. Not a group I'd have thought would be signed to Ninja Tune. They are drum & bass & a little breakbeat at parts. I noticed the album by chance & thought it was good enough to buy & I was right.

If you like Pendulum then I can't imagine that you'll be dissapointed with this album. It's like the current Pendulum but without the dodgy vocalist ie better.

Track 1 (Stompbox) Is possibly the most Pendulum-esque track on the CD. Completely vocalless. It makes a good intro track.Upbeat throughout.

Lost weekend has the vox of Mike Patton from various projects such as Fantomas, Mr Bungle, Tomahawk, etc. I'm a bit of a Patton fan & was abit worried that the track was going to be dodgy, (his hip-hop collaborations are pretty awfull) not a bit of it. The track is great, my personal favourite of the album. Heavy on the vocals but a great upbeat track throughout, certainly gets me in the mood to party.

To be honest if I went through the album track by track I'd pretty much be repeating myself. So here's a rushed summary.

All the tracks are upbeat throughout. All in the same drum & bass vein. The guest vocalists make it work. In reference to Pendulum again, I personally think that they went crap when they decided to become a band on In SIlico. The main thing I think killed them was the vocalist. I see this album as what they could have been.

Swagger & When ur lonely are the other highlights for me. When ur lonely is probly the track with the most guitar in it & relies on a sample for the vocals.

All collaborations work, yes even Wiley.

The Beardy man track is just Beardyman, but arranged & produced by the Qemists. Its the shortest track on the album.

All in all a good upbeat album that makes, me anyway wanna dance.

I highly recommend it & for the price its a good deal.
