Join The Parade,

After ten years away we finally get another album from Marc Cohn and I have to say it is up to his usual high standard. His voice is as evocative as ever and his songwriting is still up to par. This album is heavily influenced by his car jacking accident a few years ago, as well as the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and provides some very powerful and moving songs. The title track is great, and the first single and album opener 'Listening to Levon' is a great way to welcome Marc back into your music listening life. Some tracks are great straight away and the rest of the album is a grower, but the whole thing is brilliant and a welcome return of an underrated and supreme musician and artist. Give it a go, you shouldn't be disappointed.

Another classic album.,

Marc Cohn is an enigma.
Most well known for the seminal 1991 song "Walking in Memphis", which for most people is now "Cher's Song". The songwriter of possibly the finest wedding song ever - "True Companion". Insecure like us all . . . human, fragile and real. And the best singer-songwriter ever? Discuss . . . . I study the art of songwriting and this man more than ever defines . . . . Ahhh crap. You're not interested in all that psycho-babble are you? What you want is a great album with fantastic songs, great music that wraps around you and something that when you're on the train . . . sticks in your head? Basically, old style music that has a HOOK! You're in luck then! Please . . . come and join the parade!

I was pleasantly surprised with this album. Although it has been a while since we had an album from him, I thought his last album before this fell quite short of his true ability. You will not find an absolute classic song in this album like you normally would, but all the songs with the exception of one are pleasant to the ear. This exception is track 3; Dance back from the grave. He quite often seems to throw one song in each album in this style and, whilst he is obviously quite passionate about these songs, they dont work for me. Overall, a good album but certainly not his best.
