I brought an 8 week old kitten home and after having her for 2 days, realised she was absoltely infested with fleas. As she'd had kitten spot-on 2 weeks before, she couldn't have another one for 2 weeks.

I've had 4 cats before and I know they HATE water, so this was nothing new to me. But I also know it's worse to have fleas, so I went and bought this.

The first time I bathed her, I got her wet and diluted the shampoo, rubbed it in and washed it off, thinking it probably wouldn't work - when I looked at her wet fur, she had near-enough 50 fleas visible. I used a flea comb (really a child's nit comb) and vaseline to get them off. If you put the vaseline on the fleas, it stops them running away and you can comb them out.

She still had fleas everywhere and especially on her head (she's white so quite visible).

So, I changed my tactic - I figured that the fleas don't want to be in water so they moved up to her head as she was put in, meaning less of them were immersed (and it's hard to shampoo a cat's head)... So before putting her in the bath, I put a shampoo ring around her neck, rubbed in quite a bit so they couldn't all migrate upwards as they'd be caught in the shampoo circle. Then I got her all wet and took her out and this time rubbed neat flea shampoo everywhere, for ages, making sure I got every nook and cranny and really rubbed it in. Then rinse and dry.

In the meantime we'd been hoovering everyday and washing all the bedding, blankets and anything material that eggs/fleas could live in, on the hot setting. By the evening, I looked her over and couldn't see ANY fleas at all! And a week later (we're still hoovering every other day) there are still none... WE WON THE BATTLE OF FLEAS!!! She can have her flea treatment in 2 days.

Being new to the management of feline fleas irritants I had tried everything from sprays, tablets to brushing and alas nothing had worked. So I thought the next obvious step would be to use a cat shampoo. With this being my first time, I read the instructions and they seemed straight forward - wet the cat, rub in shampoo, rinse and towel dry - considering i do this on a regular basis to myself, I thought I could handle it.

However, I found out the hard way that cats do not like water, let alone being shampooed. Firstly, the cats sixth sense kicked in and he realised he was going to be getting wet; so i had to chase him around the flat prior to his bathing experience. Once he was caught, I then started what can only be described as a 'challenge'.

Once in the bathroom with the door firmly locked, I started the bathing as per instructions on the bottle. The wetting of the cats fur, this I found out my cat did not like - he started hissing at me like i was next doors cat.

Moving on to the shampoo being rubbed in the cat then seemed to accept his fate. The rinsing off of the shampoo however, was not as pleasant - the cat's claws came out and started scratching every part of my non-covered flesh; hands, arms and face - narrowly gauging out my eye. Once rinsed off and towelled dry, the cat then refused to come near me for about a week.

The scars have now healed and the cat is now happy to be in the same room as me.

Despite the traumatic experience for both myself and the cat and the slight blip in our relationship and I happy to endorse this product with 5 stars as the cat has had very little fleas problem since.

Well, I won't allow my competency on bathing a cat affect my review; I found it easy to form a lather with the product, it rinsed out better than other products I've used, the cat smells good and so far his scratching has calmed down. I'm waiting for other products so as to eliminate any fleas and/or other bugs in my home, then I'll bathe the cat with this again to be sure all is well. The cat is now speaking to me, again, even though I hurt his pride by holding him like I'm his mother (good grip on the skin just above the shoulder blades) and making him clean :O ... ;)

I don't usually write reviews but feel that it is definitely worth my time writing a review for this product.

My two cats both had fleas. I did try a spot on treatment about a month prior but to no avail. Now, for those of you who have cats you know the difficulty of bathing a cat but to rid them properly I felt they needed to he clean; a new canvas to work on so to speak.

I shampooed each cat twice, making sure I really lathered the shampoo (especially under their legs and anywhere moisture collects) into them and rinsed properly. I have to say the fleas just dropped off. I could see the relief for them was almost instantanious.

Along with ongoing treatment (spot on and flea collars) this seems to have done the trick. Even after they were bathed the fleas were still dropping off. I definately feel that all of the scratching, howling and struggling with them has been worth it; 20 mins bathing in comparison to weeks of scratching/over grooming.

I think they may have forgiven me now :)

Great as a cat shampoo,(find it very hard to get shampoo for cats), not great as a flea treatment, and as i have 3 cats, I would need to buy 2 bottles next time as it wasn't big enough to do a second wash.
