The Johnny Maxwell trilogy

ONLY YOU CAN SAVE MANKIND Hey, If not you, who else? But what can twelve-year-old Johnny Maxwell do when he's all set to blow the aliens in his computer game into the usual million pieces - and they surrender? They're not supposed to do that! They're supposed to die. And it's only a game, isn't it. Isn't it?

JOHNNY AND THE DEAD Johnny's got bad news for the dead in his local cemetery: the council want to sell the land as a building site. Well, the dead aren't going to take that lying down. They're beginning to find that life is a lot more fun than it was when they were...well...alive. And it's Halloween tomorrow...

JOHNNY AND THE BOMB Mrs Tachyon is just a nutty old bag lady, isn't she? No. Somehow, with her bunch of dubious black bags, she holds the key to different times, different eras - including the Blitz in 1941. Suddenly now isn't the safe place Johnny thought it was as he finds himself bound up more and more with then...

Three terrific tales from the master of comic fantasy, Terry Pratchett, author of the bestselling Bromeliad trilogy and the hugely successful Discworld series.

About the Author

Terry Pratchett is one of the most popular authors writing today. He lives behind a keyboard in Wiltshire and says he 'doesn't want to get a life, because it feels as though he's trying to lead three already'. He was appointed OBE in 1998. He is the author of the phenomenally successful Discworld series and his trilogy for young readers, The Bromeliad, is scheduled to be adapted into a spectacular animated movie. His first Discworld novel for children, THE AMAZING MAURICE AND HIS EDUCATED RODENTS, was awarded the 2001 Carnegie Medal.

5.0 out of 5 stars A triology of thought provoking humorous book's. 11 Dec 2000
By A Customer
Each book captures part of normal everyday life. Sometimes times a very funny view, or a quite serious subject. Issues not normally talked about for younger readers are broached in these books. The books are also have underlying moral issues, which are turned over and questioned in a considerate and often humorous way. Somehow Pratchett engages the reader in a crazy mirror of life, taken to extremes, but in a beliveable way. The characters are built upon in each book, like a girl who is competion mad, but misses the human point of view of Johnny. This book made me laugh out loud, and you can see a link with styles that are picked up in the Disc World books. These stories are more in line with reality than the disc world series. Johnny is someone special who the reader could well imagine being! A great read. Some of the storylines are real history based, which I lived through. When my daughter read them she asked about them, for instance space invaders and the gulf war. One way for generations to communicate!

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Reading 4 Nov 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I bought this trilogy for my new Kindle, while waiting for SNUFF to come out.
I have read all of Terry's adult Discworld books and have now started delving into his childrens' books.
This trilogy is not about Discworld but very entertaining and enjoyable, probably more so than his junior Discworld books, "The Amazing Maurice...." being the exception.

5.0 out of 5 stars Johnny Maxwell Trilogy 10 July 2013

Terry Pratchett at his best. Much better than the TV series. Good look into WW2 would be excellent introduction for older children getting insight into second world war. The time travelling element adds a new dimension, literally. Would highly recommend this edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Pratchett! 14 May 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Aimed firmly at the younger readers, this is still a series that adults can enjoy. Three plots surrounding the same local gang of adolescent friends - firstly with a computer space invaders game that turns out to be real - secondly, the local cemetary comes to life to complain about local planning proposals - and finally a slip back to WWII to save the people from a bombing raid. All with Mr Pratchett's wry and cynical humour, hugely enjoyable. A definite 'keeper' for me!
